Job Description

DESCRIPTION The Interim Assistant Superintendent is a member of the Superintendent’s Executive Cabinet. As a member of the executive cabinet, he/she shall provide leadership for the school district, inform the Superintendent of changes in trends, laws, rules, or regulations in his/her area of expertise, represent the Superintendent as appropriate at official school functions, and provide reports to the Superintendent of his/her activities as requested.

The Assistant Superintendent shall conduct his/her duties in full compliance with applicable federal and state law and local ordinance and shall uphold all policies and procedures promulgated by the School Committee and/or the Superintendent. The Interim Assistant Superintendent, in conjunction with the Superintendent, shall develop annual job goals that will become part of the criteria used during evaluation.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Masters Degree required, doctorate preferred, with an emphasis in instructional leadership and/or curriculum development.
  • Minimum of at least five years of successful teaching experience in a K-12 public school district required. Experience as a building level administrator and/or central office administrator is highly desired.
  • The Interim Assistant Superintendent must be certified as a Superintendent by the Rhode Island Department of Education or eligible for certification
  • The Interim Assistant Superintendent must be trained in Title IX to hold the Coordinator and Investigator roles for the district.
  • Superior skills in data collection and the ability to use data to make informed decisions about curriculum, instruction, evaluation, and assessment.
  • The Interim Assistant Superintendent must have demonstrated experience in teaching, instruction, evaluation of building administrators, Career & Technical Education, curriculum development, grant writing, professional development, and working collaboratively with diverse stakeholder groups.
  • The Interim Assistant Superintendent must have excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills; be highly responsive to concerns; and have experience in curriculum development, planning and overseeing curriculum development, supervision of administrators, and grant development.
  • Able to meet deadlines and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience in this role or a similar one.
  • Must be able to work independently and with confidentiality.

SALARY

Depending on experience and advanced degree(s), the salary is $650 per day through June 30th or until a permanent Assistant and/or Superintendent is hired.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

In carrying out these responsibilities, the Interim Assistant Superintendent shall:

Curriculum Leadership
  • Organize and direct the development of an articulated K-12 curriculum, ensuring that the curriculum is aligned with state and local standards;
  • Serving as a consultant to principals and teachers on all phases of the instructional program with a focus on coordinating the educational program among schools within the District;
  • Lead and facilitate the development, administration, and analysis of all K-12 curriculum-based common assessments and serve as the district’s state assessment coordinator;
  • Lead and facilitate content teams, intervention teams, grading and reporting committees, and other instructional teams, as needed;
  • Advocate for the use of effective instructional practices;
  • Lead curriculum reviews and review teams.
