The VP Asset Management & Recovery Strategy is responsible for shaping and executing the overall vision for collections and recovery across the credit union's multi‑billion‑dollar loan portfolio. This role will design and implement a future‑state model that leverages automation, advanced analytics, and staff optimization to maximize efficiency, improve cure rates, reduce charge‑offs, and enhance member financial wellness. The role requires a balance of strategic foresight, operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and strong leadership to ensure the collections and recovery function is positioned for sustainable growth.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:
  • Provide leadership to the asset management team to ensure a trained, motivated, and professional staff capable of providing services in a timely and accurate manner and ensuring strong engagement of the overall team. Interview, recommend for hire, schedule, assign work to, counsel, establish performance expectations, and recommend the necessary discipline and/or discharge of subordinate staff members, while maintaining required personnel documentation.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive collections and recovery strategy aligned with organizational goals.
  • Redesign job roles, workflows, and member touchpoints to maximize efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Partner with IT and vendors to expand automation, self‑service tools, and analytics.
  • Implement risk segmentation strategies to ensure proper prioritization of accounts.
  • Monitor KPIs (delinquency rates, cure rates, roll rates, charge‑offs, recovery yield) and adjust resources accordingly.
  • Oversee vendor management for repossessions, legal firms, debt buyers, and technology partners.
  • Integrate financial wellness, hardship programs, and education into the collections strategy to align with credit union mission.
  • Promote a culture of empathy, compliance, and accountability in member interactions.
  • Ensure all policies, procedures and practices comply with federal and state regulations (FDCPA, FCRA, UDAAP, NCUA).
  • Review policies, procedures, and training programs regularly for accuracy and effectiveness.
  • Provide regular reports to executive leadership and Board on collections performance and portfolio risk.
  • Work in partnership with the VP of Asset Management.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the SVP, Chief Lending Officer.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

BA/BS degree in a business‑related or similar field.

Experience / Skills/Knowledge
  • 7‑10 years of progressive leadership experience in collections, loan servicing, or recovery within a financial institution required.
  • Strong track record in process redesign, automation adoption, and portfolio performance improvement required.
  • Must have a deep understanding of regulatory requirements impacting collections and recovery.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical and problem‑solving skills required.
  • Must have the ability to conduct presentations and training programs.
  • Must have the ability to handle multiple projects/priorities simultaneously with an effective outcome.
  • Must have the ability to deal with highly confidential information.
  • Must possess strong service orientation skills in alignment with the credit union's mission and core values.
  • Excellent verbal, written, telephone and interpersonal communication skills required.
  • PC proficient, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and the Internet required.
  • Ability to function in a commercial office environment and utilize standard office equipment including but not limited to: fax, copier, telephone, etc. Ability to lift a minimum of 25lbs. (e.g., file boxes)
  • Must be able to travel on behalf of credit union business periodically.
