The Pastry Prep & Finisher is responsible for the day-to-day finishing and quality execution of pastries and cakes to support Wright’s Dairy Farm & Bakery retail store sales and wholesale demand. This role focuses on preparing, decorating, and finishing bakery products according to established recipes, quality standards, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and daily production plans.

This position requires strong attention to detail, consistency, and flexibility in a fast-paced production environment. The Pastry Prep & Finisher is expected to work as a team player, foster a positive work environment, and carry out the Core Values of Wright’s Dairy Farm & Bakery.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

Production
  • Prepare, assemble, and decorate a variety of pastries and baked goods for both retail and wholesale distribution, including cupcakes, eclairs, cake slices, and cream pastries.
  • Prep and finish a wide assortment of cakes using various frostings and fillings such as whipped cream, buttercream, Italian buttercream, cream cheese, ganache, fruit, and chocolate decorations.
  • Prepare, trim, frost, and portion bar items (e.g., brownies, fruit squares, and similar products).
  • Follow daily production schedules while remaining flexible to adjust for changing retail or wholesale demands.
  • Maintain consistent portioning, appearance, and finishing techniques across all products.
  • Restock necessary ingredients and supplies to maintain workflow.
  • Participate actively in shift-end clean-up and closing duties.
Quality Assurance
  • Follow all standard operating procedures (SOPs) and ask for clarification when needed.
  • Communicate any quality concerns to shift leads and managers promptly.
  • Produce consistent, high-quality products that meet Wright’s standards for both retail presentation and wholesale reliability.
Food Safety
  • Maintain a clean, sanitary workspace and adhere to “clean-as-you-go” practices.
  • Prevent cross-contamination of allergens by following proper storage and labeling protocols.
  • Follow all sanitizing SOPs, including floor cleaning and surface sanitization.
  • Wash hands as needed and follow hygiene practices.
  • Adhere to dress code and safety requirements, including: hair restraints, no dangling jewelry, no painted or artificial nails, wearing a clean uniform, and using non-slip/non-skid footwear.
Customer Service and Teamwork
  • Stay informed of company updates and products by reading weekly communications and attending meetings as required.
  • Serve as a brand ambassador both inside and outside of work, promoting Wright’s reputation for quality and integrity.
  • Foster teamwork and positive interactions with coworkers.
  • Maintain dependable attendance and punctuality.
  • Utilize company technology to manage scheduling, payroll, and benefits.

Position Type/Expected Work Hours

This is a full-time position requiring 30+ hours weekly. Morning and weekend shifts are required. Must have flexibility to work morning and/or evening shifts. The days and weeks leading up to major holidays (Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas) are required due to increased production demand.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Ability to follow recipes, production lists, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to consistently meet Wright’s quality and food safety standards.
