Position Purpose
Merchandising Assistant Store Manager in Training (MASM-IT) will gain hands‑on experience in the key responsibilities and functions of a Specialty Assistant Store Manager at The Home Depot. The MASM‑IT will undergo a comprehensive training program that includes hands‑on experience, mentorship, and leadership development. Throughout the training, MASMs in training will become familiar with Manager on Duty duties and learn to oversee the various merchandising departments—Garden, Hardware, Lumber, Building Materials, Plumbing, and Electrical—to ensure the successful execution of key programs that enhance customer service, product availability, and store presentation.
MASMs in training will collaborate with the Store Manager, Assistant Store Managers (ASMs), and merchandising field teams, developing and implementing strategies to boost sales and profitability and creating actionable game plans for departmental success. MASM‑ITs are expected to lead by example and uphold all lawful company policies. During the MASM‑IT training period, up to six weeks, you will learn to execute MASM key responsibilities.
- 15% – Customer
Experience:
supervise associates in the selling effort, lead GET culture, and set the example. Drive customer service and associate engagement, ensuring concerns are solved effectively. - 10% – Operations Management: perform opening, closing, MOD, and other whole‑store responsibilities; adhere to company policies; maintain SOPs, safety compliance, and mitigate shrink.
- 10% – Safety: ensure self and associates follow safety, hazmat, and Safety Matters guidelines at all times.
- 15% – Sales and Productivity: work with key partners to plan merchandise placement, signing, and support stock integrity through inventory management. Learn to maintain and operate store equipment and systems and manage daily financial operations.
- 50% – Training and Preparation for Assistant Manager: participate in a structured program covering operations, customer service, sales & profitability, company policies, staffing, scheduling, stock deficiencies, supervisor guidance, customer resolution, service needs, performance management, and complete all training modules and assessments.

- Must continuously stand or walk and regularly lift or handle material or equipment of moderate weight (8–20 pounds).
- Located in a comfortable indoor area; any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
