IN-SCHOOL SUSPENSION/ ALTERNATIVE SCHOOL AIDE
QUALIFICATIONS- Must comply with all employment criteria legally established by the Lee County Board of Education.
- A high school diploma or General Education Development (GED) and one of the following:
- Completion of 48 semester hours at an accredited college or university;
- An associate or higher degree from an accredited college or university with at least 64 semester hours of study or two years of coursework;
- Receipt of a passing score on the ACT Work Keys Assessment
- Experience working with children in an educational setting preferred.
- Must meet the suitability criteria for employment as required by the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. .
- Ability to maintain discipline in all school settings.
- Demonstrated aptitude for successful completion of the assigned task.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Job Goal: To provide a well-organized, smoothly functioning class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Applicable to All Employees:
- Attend on a regular and predictable basis.
- Complete assigned tasks in a safe manner and in a constant state of alertness.
- Uphold Board policies, including the anti-harassment program.
- Work in a cooperative manner with students, teachers, staff, supervisors, and the public.
- Work effectively and efficiently under time and productivity standards.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Administers, scores, and records such achievement and diagnostic tests as the teacher recommends for individual students.
- Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.
- Distributes and collects workbooks, papers, and other materials for instruction.
- Guides independent study and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
- Checks notebooks, corrects papers, and supervises testing and make-up work, as assigned by the teacher.
- Checks and records student attendance.
- Alerts the regular teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student.
- Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers.
- Participates in in-service training programs, as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned by regular classroom teacher.
Knowledge and Abilities
Skills are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices; planning and managing projects; preparing and maintaining accurate records; operating standard office equipment and using pertinent software applications.
Knowledge is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percent, and/or ratios; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions.
