The Division of Fish & Wildlife conserves and manages Delaware’s fish and wildlife and their habitats, and provides fishing, hunting, wildlife viewing and boating access on nearly 65,000 acres of public land.

Summary Statement

These positions are with Delaware’s Species Conservation and Research Program to assist the Wildlife Disease Biologists and Deer Project Leader with wildlife disease related research and management throughout Delaware. The Wildlife Health Biological Aides support wildlife biologists with surveillance and response activities involving a variety of wildlife species and health concerns with a primary focus on Chronic Wasting Disease surveillance in deer.

Responsibilities include collecting and processing biological samples, maintaining sampling sites and equipment, assisting with population surveys, and supporting data collection and management. The position coordinates with agency staff, the general public, hunters, processors, rehabilitators, and other partners to ensure accurate sample collection, tracking, and documentation. Additional duties include providing outreach and training support, assisting with program reports and database maintenance, and following established biosecurity and disease-prevention protocols.

Work may involve field duties in variable weather conditions, handling multiple wildlife species, and working evening or weekend shifts during peak surveillance periods.

  • Provides technical support in studies, surveys and research projects.
  • Trapping and banding.
  • Work cooperatively with other seasonals, volunteers and Division of Fish and Wildlife staff.
  • Provides technical information and assistance to the public.
  • Maintains accurate records and prepares reports.
  • Assists in data entry.
  • Maintains records and reports detailing daily activities.
  • Must be able to demonstrate responsibility, dependability and good communication skills.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Environmental Control Technician II

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  • Six months experience in conducting field work to collect samples and survey data.
  • Six months experience in math such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, or decimals.
  • Six months experience in applying laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.
  • Six months experience in narrative report writing.
  • Knowledge of using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire and report on data.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
