HIRING FOR THE 2026-27 SCHOOL YEAR
Position Type: temporary, August - May
Reports to: Associate Head of School, Division Principals, or Director of Preschool
OVERVIEW OF THE POSITIONSt. Benedict’s Episcopal School, located in Smyrna, GA, is looking for substitute teachers to work during the school year months of August – May. With a student body of 615+ ranging from 1‑year‑old preschoolers to 8th graders, we seek candidates with experience in education or a background working with children who can fill various roles within our school. You may specify your preferred age group;
we will contact you only when those positions need to be filled. Substitutes may be used for a full or half day, multiple consecutive days, or to cover long‑term leaves. New substitutes are placed in classrooms with other teachers until they become familiar with the school environment. Substitute positions are filled via text or phone call, sometimes days in advance, the day before, or even the morning of the day needed.
We are flexible around working schedules and note days that you are available to work.
- Teach scheduled classes.
- Prepare a written summary of work completed.
- Assume all duties and responsibilities of the absent teacher.
- Follow the teacher’s written lesson plans; consult with administration and/or staff to resolve questions and concerns.
- Comply with all building procedures and schedules; promote the proper use and care of school property.
- Make the absent teacher aware of special situations or problems encountered.
- Uphold school policies and follow administrative procedures.
- Implement effective student management procedures; intervene and/or report concerns to an administrator.
- Develop and maintain a positive learning environment.
- Work cooperatively with staff and administrators.
- Incorporate the effective use of available technology.
- Uphold computer technology acceptable use policies.
- Respect personal privacy.
- Maintain the confidentiality of privileged information.
- Take precautions to ensure staff/student safety; do not leave students unsupervised.
- Supervise non‑classroom duties when assigned.
- Accept personal responsibility for decisions and conduct.
- Perform other specific job‑related duties as directed.
- Minimum high school degree.
- Candidate must be at least 18 years of age.
- Prior school or childcare experience preferred.
- Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Follow both oral and written directions and instructions.
- Communicate in both oral and written means.
- Effectively present information and respond to students, parents, and staff.
- Ability to handle stressful situations.
- Must maintain confidentiality of student and school matters.
- Effectively manage time and responsibilities.
- Be professional in appearance, attitude, and demeanor.
- Reliable and dependable.
- Working knowledge of Google Classroom and Google documents.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time while instructing, excellent hearing, and physical ability to transport students within the school and move into different learning spaces.
Background checks will be performed to ensure the safety of our students.
School starts August 12, 2026 through May 27, 2027.
