Smyrna First UMC Weekday Education Program Teacher Support Specialist

Monday through Thursday 8:00am - 1:15pm

Position Summary

The Weekday Education Teacher Support Specialist is responsible for the day‑to‑day operational coordination of the Weekday Education program, ensuring a safe, organized, welcoming, and Christ‑centered environment for children, families, and staff. Working in partnership with the Director, Business Administrator, and Administrative Coordinator for Student Support & Curriculum, this position oversees daily school operations, supports staff in the consistent implementation of program policies and procedures, coordinates school‑wide logistics and events, and helps maintain operational excellence across the program.

The Teacher Support Specialist serves as the primary leader for daily operational activities, helping ensure the school functions efficiently while allowing the Director to focus on strategic leadership, personnel development, enrollment growth, and program advancement. This role provides visible leadership throughout the school, supports teachers with operational needs, responds to routine day‑to‑day issues, and helps maintain compliance with Safe Sanctuary, health and safety requirements, and established church and school policies.

When designated by the Director, the Teacher Support Specialist serves as the Acting Director and is authorized to oversee the daily operation of the Weekday Education program, respond to operational emergencies, make routine administrative decisions, and provide leadership to staff in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in any field
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience working with preschool‑aged children in a church‑based school, licensed childcare center, or similar early childhood setting
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, and understanding of developmentally appropriate practice in early childhood education
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer systems
  • Committed to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and supportive of the mission and values of the Weekday Education and church ministry.
  • CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain certification, ability to pass a criminal background check, and willingness to complete and follow Safe Sanctuary training and policies.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and oversee the day‑to‑day operational functions of the Weekday Education program by providing visible leadership throughout the school; ensuring the consistent implementation of school policies, procedures, and operational standards; supporting teachers with daily operational needs; coordinating classroom coverage and daily schedules as needed; maintaining a safe, organized, and welcoming environment; proactively identifying and resolving routine operational issues; supporting arrival and dismissal procedures;

    monitoring the readiness of classrooms and shared spaces; and communicating significant concerns or recommendations to the Director. Exercise delegated authority to make routine operational decisions that support the efficient and effective operation of the program while advancing the mission and values of Smyrna First United Methodist Church.
  • Support both short‑term and long‑range planning in collaboration with the Director.
  • Provide leadership support to staff by ensuring consistent implementation of school and church policies and procedures.
  • Keep the Director informed of concerns related to children, families, staff, or overall program operations.
  • Step into Director responsibilities, as needed, in the Director’s absence.
  • Support staff in understanding and implementing developmentally appropriate practices, while reinforcing school expectations, procedures, and professional standards.
  • Coordinate logistics for school and Parents’ Club events, including space reservations, scheduling, setup, and facility readiness.
  • Coordinate with teachers and staff regarding program‑wide events such as transportation day, egg hunts, and seasonal activities.
  • Oversee organization and readiness of shared teacher resources, including playground, fellowship hall, WE kitchen, and recreational materials.
  • Support morning and afternoon carpool and dismissal procedures in collaboration with the Director.
  • Collaborate with Parents’ Club leadership to plan and coordinate enrichment experiences and special events, including parent events, teacher appreciation, and other school‑wide activities.
  • Attend and assist in staff meetings, Parents’ Club meetings, events, staff evaluations, and parent conferences as requested.
  • Oversee and ensure consistent communication from B Hall classes with families through school systems, including weekly classroom newsletters and photo updates via Brightwheel.
  • Monitor and respond to staff and parent communications via Brightwheel in a timely, professional, and supportive manner.
