Job Description
GTRI’s Cooperative Education (“co-op”) program offers extensive opportunities to participate in diverse scientific and technological endeavors, use state‑of‑the‑art equipment, and rapidly improve your technical and leadership skills. The program allows you to alternate three semesters of full‑time work at GTRI with semesters of full‑time school.
The Electronic Systems Laboratory (ELSYS) is currently seeking a Student Co‑op in the Test Engineering Division (TEN) for the Fall 2026 semester. The Test Engineering Division provides Test and Evaluation (T&E) capability for Electronic Warfare, Avionics, and Radar Hardware‑in‑the‑Loop (HITL) test systems. These systems provide high‑fidelity simulation and stimulation of real‑time Electro‑Optical/Infrared (EO/IR), Radio Frequency (RF), and Avionics environments for testing EW, Avionics, and Radar systems that protect aircraft from ground and airborne threats.

- Hardware‑in‑the‑Loop test stations
- Simulating engagement environments to replicate field activities
- Automating test activities using emerging technologies
- Design of electrical and mechanical subsystems used in test stations
- CAD modelling of systems, subsystems, and test stations
- Fabrication and assembly of test station subsystems
- System engineering tasks such as requirements design, test architecture and development, and performance analysis
- Data capture and analysis of RF analog and digital signals
- System testing using custom test equipment and common equipment such as oscilloscopes and spectrum analyzers
- Schematic capture and layout for printed circuit card (PCB) designs
- Design of validation test equipment for new PCB designs
Minimum Qualifications
- Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related field
- 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA
- Must be eligible to be approved by your college/university to participate in a co‑op program and register for co‑op credit with your university during work terms
- Must be able to complete at least three full‑time co‑op terms (alternating three terms of full‑time work at GTRI with semesters of full‑time school) prior to graduation
- Ability to perform research independently
- Ability to prioritize tasks while working on multiple projects
- Strong math skills and ability to learn complex engineering concepts
- Ability to clearly communicate technical ideas to a non‑technical audience
- Experience in using PCB design software
- Experience using circuit simulation software
- Knowledge of embedded system fundamentals
40 hours per week
U.S. Citizenship RequirementsDue to our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position are required to be U.S. Citizens.
Clearance Type RequiredCandidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
