Openwork is currently assisting a local client in their search to find Machine Operator jobs in Smyrna. As a Machine Operator you will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines (mills and/or lathes) to produce precision firearm components according to strict specifications and quality standards. This role requires a strong understanding of machining principles, blueprint interpretation, and a commitment to accuracy and safety in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate CNC mills and/or lathes to produce firearm components from various materials (e.g., aluminum, steel).
  • Load raw materials and unload finished parts.
  • Select and verify tooling, fixtures, and machine settings (offsets, speeds, feeds) according to CNC programs and work orders.
  • Perform test runs to ensure proper machine operation and program accuracy.
  • Read and interpret complex blueprints, engineering drawings, and work orders, including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Utilize precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and CMMs (Coordinate Measuring Machines) to conduct thorough quality checks on machined parts.
  • Identify and report defective materials or questionable conditions to management or quality control personnel.
  • Adjust machine settings and offsets as needed to maintain tight tolerances and ensure parts meet exact specifications.
Qualifications
  • Education:

    High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Completion of a vocational or technical program in CNC machining, manufacturing technology, or a related field is highly preferred.
  • Experience:

    2+ years of experience as a CNC Machine Operator in a manufacturing environment. Experience in the firearms, aerospace, or medical device industries with tight tolerances is a significant plus.
Schedule Options
  • 1st Shift: 6 AM - 2 PM – $17.72/hr
  • 2nd Shift: 2 PM - 10 PM – $17.72/hr
  • 3rd Shift: 10 PM - 6 AM – $19.72/hr
