Position: Extended Assignment Team - ER RN (All shifts)

Work Shift

Day (United States of America). All Shifts Available:
Days, Mids, Nights.

Program Commitment
  • Previous travel experience strongly preferred.
  • 13‑week contract required during surge season (Oct‑March) before the role is considered for PRN shifts during non‑peak months.
  • Team members required to complete one 13‑week assignment between Oct 1 and March 31 each year, with the option to work additional 8‑13 week contracts in between.
  • While on assignment, scheduled 36 hrs/week.
  • Functions under a contingency staffing model as a PRN Team Member (only held to one contract per year) with no guaranteed hours and no benefits offered.
  • All scheduling done at unit level, no self‑scheduling.
  • Team members required to work 3 Mondays and/or Fridays and 3 Saturdays and/or Sundays in a 4‑week scheduling period.
Job Summary

The Extended Assignment Team RN Clinical Nurse—Emergency Department is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed caregivers who ensure that patients, families, and significant others receive individualized high‑quality, safe patient care. They practice in a clinical environment administered by Nurse Managers and other leaders and supported through the Wellstar Shared Governance Model. The framework for practice is steered by the Wellstar Professional Practice Model, 5‑Star Nursing and evidence‑based practice and research.

RN competencies are derived from these models and supported by the Wellstar Core Competencies. It is expected that all Internal Agency RN Clinical Nurses are licensed, knowledgeable and uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act and implements the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics standards put forth by the American Nurses Association.

As a member of the patient services team, it is expected that the individual maintains a cooperative relationship among health care teams by effectively communicating information, responding to requests, building rapport, participating in team problem‑solving methods, and upholding system policies and procedures while supporting service excellence goals.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions Exemplary Practice and Outcomes
  • Performs the Nursing Process (assessment; diagnosis; identification of outcomes; planning; implementation and evaluation) in clinical care using evidence‑based practice.
  • Uses analytical/critical thinking to ensure care is individualized; coordinates care through effective partnerships recognizing that caring is central to achieving optimal patient care outcomes.
  • Provides relationship‑based patient‑centered care that is consistent with population‑specific characteristics (e.g., age, gender, disease) and adapts service delivery to reflect an understanding of cultural diversity.
  • Partners with the patient and significant others (as appropriate) using appropriate methods for setting and purpose (e.g., bedside shift report; interdisciplinary rounds, just‑in‑time and planned patient teaching); keeps the patient and significant others updated and makes the patient’s goals the focus of the plan of care.
  • Practices using current clinical practice standards.
Teamwork and Collaboration
  • Coordinates delivery and documentation of safe, quality patient care that promotes the professional care delivery model.
  • Engages in diverse and inclusive interdisciplinary communication methods (interdisciplinary rounds, case review); completes timely documentation and promotes a respectful, inclusive clinical environment.
  • Demonstrates teamwork and collaboration by practicing fiscally responsibly and promoting recruitment and retention of all healthcare team members.
  • Participates and supports performance improvement inclusive of all stakeholders, research and research utilization to promote safe, quality patient care; initiates or leads such activities and promotes an inter/intra‑disciplinary process.
  • Actively supports/participates in shared governance at all levels in the system.
Professional Development and Initiative
