Project/UnitDescription
GTRI's Systems Engineering Research Division in the Electronic Systems Laboratory (ELSYS) seeks qualified candidates for the position of Aerospace Engineer for the Methods and Analysis Development Branch (MAD). The associate branch head will support the Branch Head with management activities as needed. The MAD Branch provides systems engineering, modeling, and analytical support to empower our stakeholders in navigating their decision‑making processes.
MAD emphasizes innovative methods and techniques, specifically through the development and implementation of quantitative and qualitative models, advanced simulations, and state‑of‑the‑art analysis.
Engage in the research, design, development, construction, testing, science and technology of aircraft and spacecraft. Pertaining to the study of the science behind the forces and physical properties of aircraft, rockets, flying craft, and spacecraft. Perform physical experimentation on aerospace systems and components. Handle computational modeling of aerodynamics, performance and control of aerospace systems. May also cover aero‑acoustic experimentation and modeling and propulsion testing and modeling.
Key Responsibilities- Develop methods and perform research tasks to meet project objectives
- Lead or contribute to the development of whitepapers and proposals to support a research area
- Support sponsors and potential sponsors engagement
- Primary author of sections technical reports/presentations of projects, journal articles, and conference presentations
- Work to understand new domains of interest to customers, in order to provide or use decision‑supporting models, simulations, and/or analyses
- Develop tailored visualizations and/or user interfaces to support sponsor or SME decision‑making activities
- Gain and maintain proficiency in various modeling and simulation, decision support, and/or related fields of study in the domain of operations research and systems analysis
- Collaborate, interface, and/or work with other researchers and multidisciplinary engineering teams on the above tasks
- Design, implement, and execute automated tests, both unit and integration tests, to verify framework functionality
- Lead the development of new technical principles, theories, and concepts
- Work on unusually complex technical problems and provide highly innovative and ingenious solutions
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience with Python, MATLAB, AFSIM and/or other modeling & simulation platforms
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Must be able to convey highly technical material in a clear, concise manner to a non‑technical audience
- Able to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret Security Clearance
- Active TS/SCI Clearance
- Experience collaborating, organizing, teaming and communicating with a diverse team of government sponsors, researchers, and other stakeholders to facilitate project performance
- Experience developing and delivering technical briefings
- Experience creating and analyzing aerospace vehicle simulations, 6‑DOF models, or related physical models and simulations
10% travel
