We are seeking a Shipping Clerk on 1st shift for our Smyrna, TN plant.
Shift
: 1st - 7:00am – 3:30pm.
Schedule
:
Monday – Friday.
- Provide service to the manufacturing operation regarding shipping of products to ensure quality of service and internal customer delivery expectations consistent with company policy and performance standards.
- Coordinate the tasks of team members to execute shipping/warehousing functions, perform duties such as preparing, handling, organizing, loading, and unloading skids or packaged orders; verify paperwork including quantities, dimensions, and weights; secure loads and ensure material handling aligns with documentation and instructions (e.g., work orders, shop prints).
- Observe all safety and operational procedures; maintain required paperwork, safety logs, preventive maintenance logs, and checklists to meet quality and delivery expectations.
- Make operational decisions as needed and maintain communication with Operations Manager and/or Operations Supervisor for approvals.
- Demonstrate a sense of urgency toward efficiency and delivery challenges, safety compliance, and quality; propose changes to working conditions and methods to improve efficiency while ensuring employee safety; foster a positive team environment.
- Utilize strong interpersonal and professional communication skills with a diverse group of associates, customers, and suppliers.
- Assist with heavier items as pallets and skids may weigh up to 1,500 lbs; request help from coworkers when needed.
- May require overtime and a flexible schedule, including reporting early and working late, including weekends from time to time.
- Coordinate shipments, including checking shipment accuracy, quality issues, packing, generating paperwork, and scheduling pickups as necessary.
- Generate labels for shipped parts or materials with required information (e.g., sales order number, supplier, customer name, date packed, and total per skid/box).
- Review and assist the receiving clerk with paperwork to check shipment accuracy; coordinate inbound/outbound staging and loading; take pictures when necessary.
- Work with other departments to detect quality issues on shipments and coordinate corrective actions per procedure; complete proper documentation.
- Utilize UPS and Fed Ex shipping software to arrange small package and LTL shipments to customer locations as requested.
- Operate various equipment as needed (forklift, standing stock picker, carts, hand trucks) and cover other positions when required.
- Participate in training new employees and support corrective action procedures within the department.
- Demonstrate multitasking and decision-making skills to prioritize workload.
- Work from an elevated platform with designated safety equipment; heights may vary but will not exceed 25 feet.
- Coordinate and oversee activities to comply with 5S, safety, and other related company policies; report injuries or safety incidents per policy.
- Maintain open communication between management and workers.
- Perform additional duties as needed.
- High school diploma or GED required. An Associate’s degree or BS is highly desirable, or 2–3 years of related inventory and shipping experience or equivalent.
- Training in operating forklift, carts, and hand truck is a plus. Experience in inventory control, cycle counting, and root-cause analysis with recommendations to solve and eliminate inventory errors is desired.
