PAY & BENEFITS

Pay begins at $45,032.11 for Utility Field Representative and is dependent upon applicable experience.
In addition to the base salary, this full-time position is eligible for an annual performance bonus as well as a longevity bonus.

Description

The purpose of this classification is to read and report water and gas readings for residents, businesses, and other users of Town of Smyrna Utilities. Duties and responsibilities include: reading and re-reading water and gas meters, recording meter readings for billing and service monitoring, connecting water services and disconnecting water and gas services to residential, commercial, and industrial customers, and replacing faulty meters and other customer service related activities.

Under general supervision, reports to Utility Field Representative Supervisor.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Reads water and gas meters in an efficient and accurate manner. Records findings and completes paperwork as required to be turned in to supervisor or designated representative.
  • Completes new service and disconnections for water and gas, according to work orders; connects and disconnects water services, disconnects gas services.
  • Re-reads gas and water meters as requested by office and/or customer; make corrections as needed.
  • Installs water meters for residential, commercial, and industrial customers.
  • Replaces faulty meters. Accurately documents the necessary changes for records; rebuilds and refurbishes water meters for future use.
  • Repairs water leaks at meter.
  • Assists in sewer work duties such as removing blockage, operating vehicles, and controlling traffic as needed.
  • Reads, follows, and accurately documents work orders. Reports unusual complaint to proper authority to be handled.
  • Performs customer service functions to include answering questions, providing information, or directing inquiries to the appropriate source for resolution.
  • Assists other utility departments as needed. Duties can include but not limited to: removing sewer blockages, repair of leaks.
  • Assists in performing functions to ensure water meter leaks are repaired, faulty/damaged meters replaced, and repairs outside of scope of work are reported to the appropriate person in a timely manner.
  • Operates and utilizes tools and equipment common to the craft. Performs regular maintenance and reports any unsafe or damaged equipment to the supervisor.
  • Ensures all personnel adhere to all OSHA, Federal, State, and Town regulations and training requirements. Reports any accidents immediately to supervisor.
  • Maintains knowledge on current safety policies, practices, and procedures related Utility Field maintenance and repair of meters and other appurtenances.
  • Maintains on-call rotation status for after-hours work, as required by management.
  • Conducts behavior in a professional manner at all times to positively reflect on customer's perception of the Town.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must possess and maintain Cross Connection certification.
  • Must possess fork truck certification.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have High School diploma or GED.
  • Must have a valid Tennessee Driver’s License.
  • Must possess a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within 12 months.
  • Must be able to meet requirement of 20-minute response time for emergencies in the Town.
