Job Description The opportunity

From rapid response and performance improvement to operational efficiency and life-cycle management, Service is one of Hitachi Energy's fastest-growing areas. We're looking for a hands-on Field Service Technician who is ready to bring technical expertise directly to our customers and make an impact where it matters most.

As part of the US Services HUB, you'll provide critical technical support for Transformer Service, working remotely and at customer sites across the country. Reporting to the Regional Field Operation Manager, you'll apply your knowledge of transformer installation, maintenance, repair, testing, and oil processing to help customers keep essential equipment operating safely and reliably.

This is an opportunity for someone who thrives in the field, enjoys solving complex technical challenges, and takes pride in delivering exceptional customer experiences. You'll build trusted customer relationships, collaborate with teams across Hitachi Energy, and help identify opportunities to improve equipment performance and expand our service capabilities.

With travel of up to 85%, no two days will look exactly the same. If you're energized by hands-on work, technical problem-solving, and the opportunity to contribute to the reliability of critical energy infrastructure, this could be the next step in your career.

How you'll make an impact
  • Deliver professional field service, including installation, commissioning, maintenance, repairs, upgrades, retrofits, and end-of-life services.
  • Perform transformer assembly and internal work, including bushing connections, lead clearance, tapping, crimping, taping, and contoured joints.
  • Read and work independently from mechanical and electrical drawings, technical manuals, and applicable instructions.
  • Repair, re-gasket, assemble, and disassemble transformer equipment using appropriate mechanical tools and procedures.
  • Operate and maintain Vacuum Oil Processors (VOPs) and oil-handling equipment with direction and complete required processing logs.
  • Coordinate resources, spare parts, and logistics to support successful execution of field service projects.
  • Build strong customer relationships by anticipating needs, resolving technical challenges, and consistently delivering excellent service.
  • Identify potential business opportunities and recommend product, process, and service improvements in collaboration with teams across Hitachi Energy.

Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your background
  • Associate degree with at least 2 years of professional work experience, or high school diploma/GED with at least 5 years of professional work experience.
  • Broad knowledge of transformer field service operations and transformer field testing.
  • Working expertise in transformer installation and assembly, vacuum and oil processing, shell and/or core form transformer designs, and internal transformer components.
  • Experience with Load Tap Changer (LTC) maintenance and repair, transformer tank welding above or below oil, and/or a Class A CDL is a plus.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel up to 85%.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, lift and carry up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and stand, stoop, bend, and walk for extended periods, including shifts of up to 12 hours.
What We Offer
  • Comprehensive Health Coverage - Medical, dental, vision, and prescription plans
  • Retirement Savings - 401(k) with company match and additional contributions
  • Paid Time Off - Flexible PTO and paid holidays
  • Professional Growth - Tuition reimbursement and continuous learning programs
  • Family Support - Parental leave, adoption assistance, and fertility benefits
More About Us
  • Join a growing service organization where your technical expertise can directly support customers and the reliability of critical energy infrastructure.
  • Build your career through hands-on experience, continuous learning, and opportunities to collaborate with talented teams across Hitachi Energy.
  • Be part of a culture centered on safety, integrity, collaboration, and creating meaningful impact for customers, colleagues, and communities.
