Responsibilities
The staff nurse provides nursing care to patients from birth through the lifecycle utilizing nursing processes to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the care for patients. He/she functions within the framework of the policies and procedures of the organization and demonstrates professional growth and accountability. The staff nurse is responsible for maintaining standards of practice, coordinating patient care activities of all assigned staff in the provision of quality nursing care.
Education- Graduate from a recognized, accredited school of nursing (Required)
- Bachelor's Degree (Preferred)
- No experience required; new graduates of a nursing program eligible (Required)
- Nursing experience in a hospital setting (Preferred)
- 1 year in a hospital setting for PRN positions (Preferred)
- RN – Registered Nurse – Georgia State Licensure and/or NLC/eNCL Multistate Licensure; current license in the State of Georgia as a Registered Nurse or NLC/eNCL Multistate License (Required)
- BCLS – Basic Life Support (Required)
- Advanced certification in the field of specialty, if applicable (see addendum)
- Cardiac Tele:
Additional required certifications – ACLS (required within 180 days of start date) - Critical Care:
Additional required certifications – ACLS (required within 180 days of start date) - Dialysis:
Additional required certification – CDN (Certified Dialysis Certificate) (Preferred) - Emergency Department:
Additional required certifications – ACLS and PALS (required within 180 days of start date); experienced ED nurses have 6 months to obtain the PALS certification - Infusion/Oncology:
Additional required certification – Chemotherapy/Biotherapy certification prior to independent chemotherapy administration (Required upon hire) - Pediatrics:
Additional required certifications – PALS (required at Piedmont Columbus Hospital) or PEARS (required at Piedmont Athens Hospital) (required within 180 days of start date). Duties also include identification and reporting of high‑risk situations such as abuse, neglect, failure to thrive, or abduction. - Surgical Services:
Additional required certifications – Pre‑Op/PACU/ENDO/CSU ACLS; PALS if unit provides care to pediatric patients (required within 180 days of start date) or BLS only (required within 180 days) - Women’s Services:
Additional required certifications – Labor and Delivery ACLS (required within 180 days of start date), NRP (Newborn Resuscitation Program) by the end of orientation for Baby and NICU patients, AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Program within 12 months of start date, and NAT for Newborn Admission Team (required within 180 days of start date)
