Job SummaryUnder the direction of the Transportation Director, the driver is responsible for safely transporting students to and from school. Specific responsibilities are described in the attached job description.
HoursBus drivers typically begin as a substitute for regular drivers. Drivers must complete a Driver Training program prior to substitution. Daily hours and routes may vary. Work is performed Monday through Friday, split shifts, 4‑6 hours/day.
Pay Rate$33.74 to $37.94/hour per PSE 2026‑2027 Salary Schedule. Above rates do not include holiday and pay in lieu of vacation, which increases hourly compensation.
- $20.00/hour during the Driver Training period
- $33.74/hour Substitute Bus Driver
- $500 one‑time bonus upon successful completion of training and 60 work days of driving for the district
- Valid Washington State driver’s license
- At least five years of experience as a licensed passenger‑vehicle driver
- Clean driving record; offenses within the last 5 years that would be grounds for disqualification include a suspended license, three or more speeding tickets, driving while intoxicated, or reckless driving (WAC 392‑144‑101)
- Pass a criminal background/fingerprint check
- Willing to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License – all training provided by the school district
- Submit to random drug tests after hire

Positions open and close periodically throughout the school year based on district needs.

Satisfactory results of background checks with prior employers/professional references, a criminal history background check (including fingerprinting), sexual misconduct information from prior school district employers, and approval by the Snohomish School Board.
