Para educator IV - Behavioral Support (Job )

Position Summary:

The Behavioral Support Para educator supports middle school students receiving special education services by providing academic and behavioral assistance across a variety of settings, including resource classrooms, general education classes, passing periods, and lunch. This role focuses on helping students access curriculum, stay engaged in learning, and develop positive social and self‑regulation skills. The para educator implements supports aligned with students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), reinforcing instructional strategies and promoting a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment.

Responsibilities and Scope of Work:

  • Work collaboratively with the special education case manager, general education teachers, counselors, and administrators to ensure consistent and effective support for students.
  • Monitor student progress, support behavior and academic goals.
  • Communicate regularly with the student’s support team.
  • Maintain confidentiality and foster student independence and success.
  • Use sound judgment, strong communication, patience, and adaptability.
  • Support students in resource classrooms, general education classes, passing periods, and lunch.
  • Implement instructional strategies in line with IEPs and BIPs.
  • Assist students to access the curriculum and engage in learning.
  • Promote a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Prior experience working with students requiring behavior supports is preferred.
Qualifications
  • At least eighteen years of age and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • One of the following:
    • Passed one of the assessments approved by the Para educator Board ((Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).).
    • Hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
    • Earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university.
    • Completed an apprenticeship as a para educator in a program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council.
  • Upon hire, must provide:
    • Copy of a high‑school diploma or transcripts, or acceptable equivalent document.
    • Official post‑secondary transcript(s).
Position Details

  • Work Schedule:

    Monday – Thursday 7:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. (one 15‑minute paid break, one 30‑minute unpaid meal break);
    Friday 7:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. (same breaks).
  • Weekly

    Working Hours:

  • Wage: $28.36 – $32.88 per hour (2025‑26 PSE Salary Schedule; 2026‑27 TBD).
