- 2:30 p.m. (includes one 15-minute paid break and one 30-minute unpaid meal break)

Friday: 7:00 a.m.

- 12:30 p.m. (includes one 15-minute paid break and one 30-minute unpaid meal break)

Weekly working hours: 33

Wage: $29.10 - $33.71 per hour (2026-27 PSE Salary Schedule)

Work Calendar: 2026-27 PSE PARA SECONDARY M-F

Position Summary

The Behavioral Support Para educator supports middle school students receiving special education services by providing academic and behavioral assistance across a variety of settings, including resource classrooms, general education classes, passing periods, and lunch. This role focuses on helping students access curriculum, stay engaged in learning, and develop positive social and self-regulation skills. The para educator implements supports aligned with students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), reinforcing instructional strategies and promoting a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment.

The para educator works collaboratively with the special education case manager, general education teachers, counselors, and administrators to ensure consistent and effective support for students. Responsibilities include monitoring student progress, supporting behavior and academic goals, and communicating regularly with the student’s support team.

The position requires strong communication, patience, and adaptability, as well as a commitment to maintaining confidentiality and fostering student independence and success.

Previous experience working with students with behavior supports preferred.

WA State Para educator Requirements
  • At least eighteen years of age and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Must also meet one of the following:
    • Have received a passing score on one of the assessments approved by the Para educator Board ((Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).)
    • Hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
    • Have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university.
    • Have completed an apprenticeship as a para educator, in a program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council.
Upon Hire, Successful Candidate Must Provide
  • A copy of a High School diploma or HS transcripts, or acceptable equivalent document.
  • Official post secondary transcript(s).
Benefit Eligibility
  • Insurance:
    Eligible for medical, dental, vision, long-term disability, basic life insurance, and accidental death and dismemberment insurance provided the assignment is anticipated to work at least 630 hours per year.
  • Retirement Plan:
    Eligible for a 403(b) TSA Retirement Savings Plan.
  • Paid Holidays:
    Eligible for up to 13 paid holidays per year. The number of holidays depends on employee’s start and end dates.
  • Paid Time Off:
    Employees working 12 months per year earn 12 days of paid vacation per school year. Employees working 237-260 days per school year earn 12 days of sick leave. Up to 3 days of personal leave may be granted each school year. Vacation, sick leave, and personal leave are based on scheduled hours and position start date.
