Valid Washington State certificate with appropriate endorsement required (students may submit a note stating when certificate is expected).
The ML teacher is skilled in language development and differentiation to coordinate and oversee the implementation of a strong instructional program for English learners within a school's Multilingual program. Per state requirement, the goal is for ML teachers to be endorsed in English Language Development. Where an ML endorsed certificated teacher is not available or possible due to staffing constraints, all programming decisions and guidance must be done in collaboration with an ML endorsed staff member.
The ML teacher provides language development instruction, as well as works with classroom teachers and necessary staff (paras where applicable) to integrate language acquisition into the curriculum and promote high-yield instructional strategies that support multilingual learners across content areas. ML teachers in are supported by the SVSD Multilingual Content Specialist, who is endorsed and versed in best practice methods for English Language Development.
