JOB TITLE:Lead Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technologist Position Summary
Performs a variety of specialized MRI scans and imaging procedures. In addition to performing the full scope of MRI Technologist work, the Lead Technologist provides day-to-day technical and workflow leadership for the MRI service line, including daily assignments, staff training and competency, MRI safety, supplies, and schedule coverage. Partners with the Lead CT Technologist on shared department standards.

- Acting in accordance with hospital policies with a high degree of professional ethics and conduct, and modeling that standard for MRI staff. Discretion must be used in several areas such as patient care and scheduling.
- Accurately interpreting a physician’s scanning instructions, administering contrast materials, preparing and operating the MRI scan equipment and positioning the patient to capture the appropriate images.
- Being responsible for the care of patients of all ages, relying on past experience as well as professional training with the geriatric and pediatric patient to meet these standards.
- Using all safety forms the Imaging Department provides prior to bringing a patient into the MRI exam room, and ensuring MRI staff do the same.
- Safely managing the environment of care while providing patient care and services.
- Delegating assignments in a courteous manner.
- Assisting in ensuring full compliance with all Department of Health regulations applicable to MRI.
- Seeing that staff members support all quality, safety measures and practices.
The Lead Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technologist supports continuous improvement and high standards by:
- Contacting the Imaging Manager regarding equipment malfunctions, supply requests and any unusual situations that depart from standard policies and procedures.
- Functioning using independent judgment, initiative, and ingenuity when performing technical procedures, and serving as the technical resource for MRI staff.
- Managing and monitoring the equipment used to acquire MRI images.
- Developing and organizing diagnostic quality images prior to giving them to the radiologist for interpretation.
The Lead Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technologist encourages creativity and forward-thinking approaches by:
- Utilizing magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners to produce cross-section images of patients’ internal organs and tissues for the diagnosis of medical issues.
- Assisting with new employee orientation and training.
- Demonstrating problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
The Lead Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technologist strengthens relationships with patients, staff, and care team partners by:
- Demonstrating proper infection control practices.
- Serving as a department mentor.
- Supporting department changes.
