POSITION SUMMARY:

The Emergency Department Technician (ED Tech) provides clinical and technical support to the Emergency Department team in delivering timely, safe, and compassionate patient care. Working under the supervision of registered nurses and physicians, the ED Technician assists with patient care activities, basic clinical procedures, and department operations in a fast-paced emergency care environment.

The ED Technician plays a key role in maintaining a safe and organized care environment while supporting efficient patient throughput. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to respond quickly to changing patient needs.

Essential Functions:
  • Patient Care and Operational Support
  • Assist nurses and providers with patient care activities and clinical procedures
  • Obtain and document vital signs, weight, and other patient measurements
  • Assist with patient mobility, transfers, and positioning while maintaining patient safety
  • Transports patients within the hospital and department
  • Support patient intake and preparation for examinations or procedures
  • Perform electrocardiograms (EKGs) and other basic diagnostic procedures as trained
  • Assist with specimen collection and transport according to department protocols
  • Support clinical staff during emergency interventions and trauma situations
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized patient care environment
  • Stocking, outdating, and ensuring department preparedness
  • Monitor patients and promptly report changes in condition to nursing staff
  • Assist with room turnover and preparation between patients to support patient flow
  • Support documentation and communication within the care team when appropriate
  • Clean and maintain clinical equipment and supplies according to infection prevention standards
  • Health Unit Coordinator and Patient Registration
  • Cross train to ED Health Unit Coordinator role for purposes of break coverage
  • Collect and verify demographic, insurance, and contact information
  • Accurately enter and update patient information within the electronic health record (EHR) system
  • Provide patients and families with registration forms, consent documents, financial aid packet, and other pertinent information
  • Communicate with other registration/HUC staff and clinical teams to ensure accurate and timely patient documentation
  • Support patient identification and wristband verification in accordance with safety protocols
