Equipment Mechanic I, II, or III

TxDOT is seeking an Equipment Mechanic I, II or III based in Snyder, TX. This position supports TxDOT's mission by maintaining and repairing a wide range of wheeled vehicles, including passenger vehicles, medium- and heavy-duty trucks, and construction equipment. Fleet mechanics play a critical role in keeping Texas moving. We support daily operations and respond to emergency and inclement weather events that impact communities across the state.

This position is open to both experienced mechanics and those looking to develop their skills in a structured, supportive environment.

Equipment Mechanic I - $50,000 - $60,000

Equipment Mechanic II - $55,000 - $70,000

Equipment Mechanic III - $60,000 - $80,000

This position is for one Equipment Mechanic I, II, or III. The Texas Department of Transportation reserves the right in determining the level of position based on the applicant's work experience, education, skill level and all other appropriate factors, and based on business needs.

Minimum Salary: 40,918.00

Maximum Salary: 61,130.00

Position Description Performs repair/maintenance and inspection related work for fleet vehicles and equipment in the Fleet Operations Division Shop or a District Maintenance Section. Work may require maintenance and repair of heavy equipment used in construction of highways/bridges and inspecting work performed by contracted vendors. Work may require contact with other governmental agencies and private contractors. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments, however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

Essential Duties:
Equipment Mechanic I, II & III:

- Adjusts brakes and replaces brake system parts to include air brake and anti-locking systems.

- Analyzes and interprets computerized diagnostic equipment information.

- Completes repair order paperwork and accurately enters data into fleet information management system.

- Maintains and repairs heavy equipment used in construction and maintenance of highways/bridges.

- Checks lighting and wiring mechanisms to ensure proper functioning of headlights, spotlights, tail lights and parking lights.

- Performs preventive maintenance, inspections and repairs on motor vehicles/equipment; as required moves items related to these activities.

- Performs quality assurance/analysis on repaired vehicles and equipment.

- Prepares vehicles for use by checking for required safety features such as first aid kits, fire extinguishers and mobile radios.

- Troubleshoots, tests and repairs electrical systems, electronic ignitions and fuel injection systems.

- Uses computerized diagnostic analyzer systems and performs complex diagnostic work on vehicles/equipment.
