Summary

We are seeking a reliable and flexible individual to join our transportation team as a Substitute Bus Driver at Snyder Maintenance/Transportation. This position is essential in ensuring the safe and timely transportation of students and other passengers as needed. The ideal candidate will possess strong driving skills, a commitment to safety, and the ability to adapt to varying schedules and routes.

Responsibilities
  • Operate a school bus or other transportation vehicle in a safe and efficient manner, adhering to all traffic laws and regulations.
  • Transport students, staff, and other passengers to and from designated locations according to established schedules.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure safety and proper functioning of the bus.
  • Maintain a clean and organized bus interior and exterior.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff regarding transportation schedules and safety protocols.
  • Manage student behavior on the bus and enforce safety rules.
  • Report any accidents, incidents, or mechanical issues to the appropriate personnel immediately.
  • Assist in training new bus drivers as needed.
  • Be available to fill in for regular drivers on short notice, including mornings, afternoons, and special event transportation.
  • Attend training sessions and meetings as required to stay updated on policies and safety procedures.
Requirements
  • Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for passenger transport.
  • Clean driving record with no major violations.
  • Previous experience driving a bus or similar vehicle preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and adapt to changing schedules.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in transportation.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm in emergency situations.
  • Physical ability to assist students with boarding and disembarking from the bus as needed.
