Summary: Assists the Department Director in planning, directing and coordinating the operational, financial and personnel activities of the designated departments. Provides clinical and operational leadership for areas assigned.

Work Shift:

10 Hour Days (United States of America)

Responsibilities Clinical Leadership
  • Provide oversight for daily operations of surgical nursing units, including OR, PACU, and pre/post-operative care.
  • Ensure delivery of safe, evidence-based, patient-centered care.
  • Maintain clinical competency and support best practices in surgical nursing.
  • Participate in direct patient care as needed due to staffing or acuity demands.
Staff Management & Development
  • Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate nursing staff.
  • Develop staffing schedules that align with patient census and acuity in a rural setting.
  • Mentor and coach nursing personnel to support professional growth.
  • Promote staff engagement, retention, and a positive workplace culture.
Operational Management
  • Oversee departmental budgets, resource allocation, and cost control.
  • Monitor productivity, patient flow, and efficiency of surgical services.
  • Ensure equipment and supply availability, with attention to rural resource limitations.
  • Collaborate with physicians, anesthesia providers, and interdisciplinary teams.
Qualifications
  • Licensure:
    State of New Mexico or Compact State Nursing License or Graduate Nurse Permit required.
  • BLS required.
  • BSN required.
  • Degree from accredited academic nursing program (If a program is under conditional status, approval may be granted by system CNO).
