Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Establish and maintain a comprehensive school health program which promotes health and prevents illness and injury
- Administer first aid to students and staff
- Evaluate students complaints of illness and make decisions about utilizing the nursing process. Collect information about the health and developmental status of students in a systematic and continuous manner
- Monitor compliance with immunization requirements
- Understand state laws, regulations and rules requiring schools to collect immunization history
- Notify parents when students need to acquire additional vaccinations
- Report immunization data to local and state level as appropriate
- Serve as a resource to families regarding community services available for immunizations
- Make referrals to health agencies when appropriate
- Establish a network of support services including school based health center
