Broadband Technician II – You will perform intermediate to complex installations, disconnects and service changes for residential customers, including FTTH (Fiber to the Home RFoG and GPON). Responsibilities include video service, HSD services, and home phone service. The role involves moderate troubleshooting from the tap to the customer’s electronic devices (TV, DVD, Modem, etc.) and underground or aerial construction involved with system plant, repair, and maintenance.
You will install, splice, repair and maintain aerial, buried, and/or underground fiber optic and coax cable. Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within telecommunications is required.
Due to in‑field support and on‑call requirements, the selected individual must reside within a 60‑minute driving distance from the Socorro, New Mexico warehouse located at 223 Fisher Avenue – Socorro, New Mexico 87801.

Responsibilities- Perform intermediate and complex installation of all necessary cable wiring (interior and exterior) and hardware from the tap/MST to the customer’s equipment for reception of cable and other company services for single, multi‑family, and commercial dwellings over both Fiber Optic and Coax delivery methods. Inspect and correct NESC safety violations for new construction builds and new service drops and legacy facilities.
Coordinate underground drop burial work with contractors and in‑house burial crews, fill out, submit, and pickup permits from government agencies as required to perform work in the ROW, and track and update status within the systems. Inspect to ensure work meets all construction and government standards and verifies serviceability of new customers. - Perform connects (new connects and reconnects), disconnects, upgrades, downgrades, relocates, install additional outlets, fiber connections, and hardline cutovers; install or remove equipment (e.g., converters) at single or multiple unit dwellings.
- Utilize test equipment to identify and repair signal strength issues and ensure optimum reception both optical and RF. Use locators, TDRs, FDRs, and OTDRs while reading system maps, calculating signal loss of cable lines and/or devices using signal level meters, and understanding plant blueprints. May include pole, ladder, tower or alternative structure climbing, and potential use of a bucket truck.
- Perform all work as necessary to conform to quality control guidelines, including compliance with OSHA, FCC, NEC and NESC requirements.
- Monitor and record system, drop, and in‑house leakage; properly record all required information on work orders, surveys, referrals, etc.
- Promote cable, internet, and other company services; educate customers on proper use of the service, including how to add additional services, channel lineups, proper equipment usage, and other services that are available.
- 1+ year basic technical telecommunications experience — or current/prior military service with honorable discharge.
- 6+ months of basic fiber optic and/or copper cable splicing and repair, installation and repair, or switch training.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Follow the TDS attendance guidelines to meet business needs and customer obligations.
- Successful completion of customer‑specific requirements, which may include a background check administered by the customer.
- Availability for on‑call/standby responsibilities and occasional travel; willingness to work overtime as needed.
- Pass all components of the Safety Course curriculum upon hire.
- Maintain DOT requirements for operating vehicles with a combined GVRW >10,000 lbs.
- Reliable, responsible, and dedicated to a team with a strong work ethic.
