As a Broadband Technician II
, you will perform intermediate to complex installations, disconnects and service changes for residential customers, including FTTH (Fiber to the Home RFoG and GPON). This role includes installing, splicing, repairing and maintaining aerial, buried, and underground fiber optic and coax cable, troubleshooting from the tap to the customer's devices, and conducting underground and/or aerial construction for system plant maintenance.

Due to in‑field support and on‑call requirements, the selected candidate must reside within a 60‑minute driving distance from the Socorro, New Mexico warehouse located at 223 Fisher Avenue – Socorro, New Mexico 87801.

This position is eligible for a $1,000 sign‑on bonus! Payout terms apply.

Responsibilities
  • Perform intermediate and complex installation of cable wiring (interior and exterior) and hardware from the tap/MST to customer equipment for single, multi‑family, or commercial dwellings using Fiber Optic and Coax delivery methods.
  • Conduct connects, disconnects, upgrades, relocations, and install or remove equipment (e.g., converters) at single‑ or multi‑unit dwellings.
  • Utilize test equipment (locators, TDRs, FDRs, OTDRs) to identify and repair signal strength issues, interpret system maps, calculate signal loss, and read plant blueprints.
  • Perform work in compliance with quality control guidelines and regulations such as OSHA, FCC, NEC, and NESC.
  • Record system, drop, and leakage data and maintain accurate work‑order information.
  • Promote cable, internet, and other company services and educate customers on service usage.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • 1+ year basic technical telecommunications experience or current/prior military service with honorable discharge.
  • 6+ months of fiber optic and/or copper cable splicing, repair, installation or switch training.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Follow attendance guidelines to meet business needs.

Other Qualifications

  • Successfully complete customer‑specific background checks.
  • Available for on‑call/standby responsibilities; travel and overtime may be required.
  • Complete all components of the Safety Course curriculum.
  • Maintain DOT requirements for operating vehicles with GVRW >10,000 lbs.
  • Reliable, responsible, team‑oriented, with strong work ethic.
  • Knowledge of computer applications and burial construction.
  • Familiarity with company products and services.
  • Organizational skill and ability to multi‑task.
  • Customer service and sales skills with effective verbal and written communication.
  • Capacity to work in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
  • Physical ability to dig, lift, climb, and handle 50–100 lb loads.
  • Successful completion of the SCTE Broadband Premise Technician course.
  • Certification: SCTE Service Technician, SCTE BDS, or NCTI Installer Technician Course, or successful completion of the SCTE Installer Certification.
Physical Demands and Work Environment

Work requires sitting, standing, writing, and operating computers, loud communication with customers, and frequent movement and reaching. Stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, balancing, and climbing may be required. Lifting up to 50 lbs, occasionally up to 100 lbs. Specific vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth, and focus adjustment. Outdoor work, mechanical equipment rooms, and extreme weather conditions may occur. Exposure to moving mechanical parts and heavy equipment is possible.
