HPC Software Engineer

The National Radio Astronomy Observatory seeks an HPC Software Engineer III to design and optimize high-performance computing software for world-class radio telescopes. In this role, you will build scalable, parallel applications and data pipelines for large astronomical datasets, leveraging multi-core and GPU architectures. Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize HPC software for large-scale radio astronomy data processing pipelines.
• Implement parallel algorithms and performance tuning on multi-core and GPU-based systems.
• Collaborate with astronomers and engineers to translate scientific requirements into robust software solutions.
• Integrate HPC applications with observatory data systems, storage, and networking infrastructure.
• Maintain, test, and document software following best practices and version control workflows.
• Support deployment, monitoring, and troubleshooting of HPC applications in production environments.
• Contribute to architectural decisions, code reviews, and continuous improvement of development processes.
• Mentor junior engineers and participate in technical knowledge-sharing across teams.
