Job SummaryThis position serves as the technical expert, staff advisor, and consultant regarding responsibility for Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) model development and application. Assesses regulatory issues/trends related to PRA with potential impact on TVA’s Nuclear Power Program and advises on response strategies. Provides oversight and is a technical expert of PRA activities at a BWR and/or a PWR plant. Develops/evaluates plans/criteria for a variety of projects and activities to be performed individually or carried out by others.
Principle areas of accountability may include:
- Leading and providing technical direction for specific PRA projects/programs including model development, maintenance, and applications
- Developing procedures, documentation, and calculations for PRA models and applications
- Developing PRA input for programs such as Maintenance Rule a(4) and Mitigating System Performance Indicators
- Provide governance and oversight for online maintenance risk evaluations such as a(4) online maintenance and risk informed completion times
- Provide training on PRA models/applications as needed for various departments/groups
- Providing PRA support for risk-informed initiatives such as 50.69 and License Amendment Requests
- Developing or reviewing risk evaluations for emergent plant conditions
The areas require the incumbent to apply extensive and diversified knowledge of PRA evaluation and application in broad areas of assignments. Makes decisions independently on engineering change package reviews for PRA impact. Requires use of advanced techniques in PRA evaluation and application to address unique and complex problems. Knowledge and expertise required for this level of work usually results from progressive experience in various departments.
May be assigned to work in the corporate office or at a specific TVA plant location. When the requirements of the assignment warrant, the incumbent may be temporarily assigned to different field locations.
May supervise multi-discipline projects and expert panels as needed. Train and mentor PRA Staff as necessary.
Supervision ReceivedSupervision and guidance relate largely to overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters. Consults with management, program managers, and other PRA Engineers.

Minimum Qualifications- A B.S. degree in Nuclear, Mechanical, or a related engineering discipline from an accredited curriculum, plus related continuing education. An advanced degree is desirable.
- Minimum experience:
2 years related; 1 year nuclear power plant. - Previous NRC SRO license/certification or STA training is highly desirable.
- Membership in professional societies desirable.
Must be able to obtain and maintain unescorted nuclear plant access and S-3 and S-4 medical qualifications when applicable. Must be able and willing to assume “on‑call” rotational assignments which may include 24 hour‑a‑day, 7 day‑a‑week availability. Must be willing and medically able to work rotating shifts and maximum overtime permitted by TVA/NPG procedures during peak periods. Must be able and willing to travel to plant locations as required when performing assigned tasks and, as necessary, to be temporarily assigned to a field location.
