CAMP Peer Mentor

Kenai Peninsula College is looking for excellent student workers to join the College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) as CAMP Peer Mentors! CAMP Peer Mentors will be hired to provide tutoring and mentoring to participants. Tutors/mentors will be responsible for coaching students in strategies for success and assisting them with understanding academic material.
Job duties include providing peer mentoring and support to current CAMP students by assisting students with understanding academic material through tutoring and academic support. Coach students in strategies for college success, persistence, time management, and campus engagement, and help connect CAMP students to campus organizations, clubs, leadership development opportunities, social activities, and other student support resources. Serve as a positive role model by sharing college-going experiences and persistence strategies.
Support CAMP program activities, outreach, events, recognition activities, and student engagement efforts as assigned. Communicate regularly with CAMP staff regarding student needs, activities, and participation. Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and appropriate boundaries when working with students. Track and document mentee meetings, including the date, duration, and meeting format (virtual or in person), to maintain accurate records of mentor-mentee engagement. Complete other related duties as assigned in support of CAMP student success.
We're looking for students who are dependable, willing to learn, and able to work well with others. Strong communication, time-management, organization, and a positive attitude are valued; previous work experience is not always required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Enrollment Requirements:
During the academic year, undergraduate students must be taking at least 6 credits.
GPA Requirements:
Students must have and maintain at least a 2.0 GPA to be employed as a student employee.
Work Schedule Restrictions:
While classes are in session, students may work up to 20 hours per week.
Other Requirements:
Applicant must have been previously a CAMP Scholar.
Position Details:
This recruitment is open to undergraduate students only.
This is a part time position up to 10 hours/week during the semester. This position is located at Kenai Peninsula College in Soldotna Alaska. This job is a Grade 1 Step 17 position which pays $15.57/hour.
