Job Summary

The Cellar Crew 3 Operator is responsible for all day‑to‑day wine production and is proficient in all cellar duties and equipment, with minimal supervision. The position follows standard work methods and practices that create safe work habits to ensure production is as efficient and safe as possible.

Essential Functions
  • Perform Cellar I and II tasks: clean & sanitize equipment, apply good housekeeping practices, perform wine movements, top barrels, make additions to wine, operate complex equipment, measure and calculate workplace data. (Under minimal supervision)
  • Perform complex cellar and barrel tasks including wine movement, blend assembly, wine/juice additions per Winemaker instructions, etc.
  • Responsible for racking and blending wine accurately according to the Winemaker’s instructions.
  • Responsible for barrel washing, gassing, stacking with a forklift, barrel topping and SO2 addition.
  • Operate crush equipment and presses (with moderate supervision).
  • Operate and care for other complex cellar equipment.
  • Perform pump overs and punch downs and appropriately direct less‑skilled crew members in assisting with those tasks.
  • Harvest additions, including yeasting and nutrients.
  • Handle shipping and receiving tanker trucks.
  • Proficient forklift operations.
  • Operate barrel scanners.
  • Ensure compliance with safety rules and procedures.
  • Participate in Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) programs.
  • Train employees in proper work procedures, sustainability, and safety.
  • Maintain sanitation in all areas of cellar and barrel operations.
  • Provide clear, honest, and accurate feedback to Winemaking, Cellar, and Barrel staff regarding safety, good manufacturing practices, operational and winemaking best practices.
  • Lead and mentor teams, train, and mentor temporary employees, and assist in creating SOPs and training documents.
  • Lead harvest readiness and post‑harvest teams.
  • Monitor inventory supply levels in the cellar.
  • Participate in weekly tailgate sessions.
  • Support safety programs and policies.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and healthful work environment at all times.
Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years or older at time of hire.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • 5+ years of general winery experience in a production or manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of computer applications (typing, Microsoft Suite, barrel scanners, etc.).
  • Must have experience in all aspects of crush work, including previous barrel experience.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand instructions in English.
  • Must be able to read, understand, and complete paperwork efficiently and accurately.
  • Operational knowledge of equipment such as: crossflow filters, centrifuges, bladder presses, wine pumps, and automatic pumpovers.
  • Ability to multitask, work independently, and with a team in a fast‑paced environment with emphasis on quality, accuracy, and timeliness.
  • Must be flexible with shift schedule.
  • Operation of basic hand tools.
  • Must have an excellent safety, work performance, and attendance record.
  • Prioritize while able to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Demonstrated reliability and punctuality, work effectively in a team/crew environment, adherence to all safety regulations, operating procedures, and company policies.
Physical Demands
  • Position will be exposed to indoor and outdoor environments with varying noise levels.
  • Employee is exposed to wet or humid conditions.
  • Exposed to inclement seasonal weather, summer heat, cold weather, and rain.
  • Requires bending, stooping, and twisting in a production environment.
  • Must be able to repeatedly lift and carry weights up to 60 pounds at varying frequencies with equipment.
Compensation
  • Hourly Pay Range Posted: $21.25 - $31.83/hr.
  • Actual compensation will be based on factors such as experience, skills, knowledge, and abilities, education, and other position‑related factors.
