Position Summary
The Steel Detailer is responsible for creating detailed 3D models and shop and erection drawings for structural and miscellaneous steel based on engineering and architectural plans. This role uses parametric modeling software to ensure fabrication and construction teams have accurate, code compliant drawings to support efficient project execution.
- Develop 3D parametric models and detailed shop drawings and erection drawings for structural steel components using detailing software such as SDS
2. - Interpret architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, and project requirements to produce accurate detailing.
- Coordinate with engineers, project managers, and fabrication teams to resolve discrepancies and ensure drawings meet project specifications.
- Verify dimensions, connections, and materials to ensure compliance with industry codes and standards (AISC, AWS, etc.).
- Incorporate revisions and red line markups into updated drawing sets and 3D models in a timely manner.
Maintain accurate records of model and drawing revisions and approvals throughout the project lifecycle. - Communicate with vendors and clients as needed to clarify detailing requirements.
- Support quality control efforts by reviewing models and drawings for accuracy before submission.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of two years of experience in steel detailing or a related drafting role.
- Proficiency with 3D parametric detailing software such as Tekla Structures, SDS2, or Advance Steel.
- Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication and erection processes.
- Ability to read and interpret complex architectural and structural drawings.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Associate degree or technical certification in drafting, engineering technology, or a related field.
- Experience detailing miscellaneous metals, stairs, and railings.
- Familiarity with AISC standards and connection design principles.
- Experience working directly with fabrication shops or general contractors.
- Advanced proficiency in parametric modeling workflows and clash detection.
- Exposure to electrical infrastructure projects involving varying voltage levels is a bonus.
- Strong spatial reasoning and technical visualization skills.
- Effective communication with cross functional teams including engineers and fabricators.
- Time management and ability to meet project deadlines under shifting priorities.
- Problem solving skills to resolve design conflicts and field issues.
- Adaptability to evolving project requirements and revision cycles.
