A valid State of Ohio credential appropriate to the assignment (e.g., an Ohio teaching license or certificate validated for music, K-12, or an approved Ohio substitute license/permit), or the demonstrated ability to obtain such credential prior to the start of the assignment.

A Bachelor's Degree (or higher) from an accredited college or university, with specific emphasis in music education preferred.

Demonstrated successful experience teaching instrumental music (band, marching band, and/or orchestra) preferred.

Appropriate recommendations from student teaching supervisors, previous employers, or other professionals who have observed the personal characteristics, scholastic attainment, and classroom performance of the candidate.

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Long-term substitute assignment. Length of assignment will be determined by the District based on the needs of the position.

Demonstrate a positive ability to work harmoniously with others and exhibit an ability to discover and develop the potential of all students assigned to his/her care.

• Plan and implement a sequential program of instrumental music learning activities consistent with the Solon City Schools General, Instrumental and Vocal Music Course of Study, Grades K-12.
• Provide individual and group instruction in instrumental music, including band, marching band, and orchestra, as assigned.
• Recruit and encourage pupils to receive instruction on standard band and orchestra instruments.
• Select, edit, and rearrange music to conform to the ability level of the pupils.
• Organize and present musical programs for the school and community (e.g., marching band performances, concerts, and other events).
• Provide individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil, and encourage pupils to develop individual musical skills to the greatest extent possible.
• Establish, in cooperation with the building principal(s), a schedule of instructional activities for each school assigned.
• Utilize and develop a variety of appropriate materials and instructional techniques to suit the needs of the learner.
• Instruct pupils in citizenship, basic communication skills, and other general elements of the course of study.

• Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment during individual practice, group rehearsals, and performances.
• Guide and develop values, attitudes, and behaviors of students that are socially acceptable, including respect for the rights and property of others and the development of self-discipline needed to follow school and District rules.
• Evaluate and prepare progress reports on students' growth, and keep accurate records of student progress.
• As necessary, confer with parents regarding the music program and individual student progress.
• Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other staff members in assessing and addressing student health, attitude, and learning concerns.

• Maintain and make minor adjustments and repairs to musical instruments; arrange for major repairs as needed.
• Maintain procedures for school-owned music, uniforms, instruments, and equipment in order to prevent loss or abuse.
