The Manufacturing Engineering Technician provides advanced technical support for SMT and PCBA manufacturing processes by setting up, maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing automated production equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and repeatable manufacturing operations. This position supports New Product Introduction (NPI) and production by leading equipment readiness, validating process parameters, performing root cause investigations, executing process improvement initiatives, and assisting with process capability and DOE activities.

Working collaboratively with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, and Production, Technician II ensures manufacturing processes comply with IPC standards, customer requirements, and company quality systems while improving equipment reliability, product quality, and manufacturing performance.

GENERAL FUNCTIONS /
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Be able to describe the Quality Policy and Quality Objectives, your contribution to quality, and the effects of not observing quality and customer requirements.
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI) and production by setting up, configuring, maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing SMT/PCBA manufacturing equipment, tooling, machine programs, and approved process parameters.
  • Perform equipment qualification, process verification, first-piece inspections, machine changeovers, reflow profile verification, and manufacturing readiness activities to ensure safe, efficient, and repeatable production.
  • Develop, verify, maintain, and optimize SMT machine programs, feeder setups, equipment parameters, process profiles, and machine configuration data to ensure repeatable manufacturing performance.
  • Lead or participate in troubleshooting, root cause investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives to improve equipment reliability, process capability, first-pass yield, throughput, and overall manufacturing performance.
  • Support process validation and continuous improvement activities by performing equipment evaluations, process capability studies, data collection and analysis, and assisting Manufacturing Engineering with experiments and implementation of approved process improvements.
  • Develop, maintain, and verify machine setup documentation, work instructions, process records, equipment logs, visual work aids, and other controlled manufacturing documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with IPC standards, ESD requirements, customer specifications, company quality systems, and applicable safety and regulatory requirements while supporting corrective and preventive actions.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Process Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, Supply Chain, and Production to implement engineering changes, support equipment maintenance and installation, provide technical guidance, and train production personnel on SMT equipment and standardized work practices.
  • Monitor manufacturing performance through analysis of yield, defects, downtime, Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), scrap, rework, and other process metrics to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Perform other Manufacturing Engineering support duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND

SKILLS REQUIRED:
  • Associate degree in Electronics Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent combination of education and relevant manufacturing experience.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience supporting SMT/PCBA manufacturing processes in an electronics manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of SMT manufacturing equipment, including solder paste printing, SPI, pick-and-place systems, reflow ovens, AOI, selective solder, conveyors, and supporting automation.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose equipment malfunctions and manufacturing process issues while minimizing production downtime.
  • Working knowledge of SMT process fundamentals, including solder paste application, component placement, reflow soldering, inspection methods, and PCB handling.
