What you'll be doing:
We are seeking a Fermentation Technician to support our fermentation laboratory and assist with routine microbiology and fermentation activities. This individual will play a hands-on role in preparing materials, maintaining cultures, supporting fermentation experiments, and ensuring the laboratory is organized and ready to support ongoing work.
The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on microbiology experience and a solid understanding of sterile and aseptic techniques. While training will be provided on our specific fermentation processes and bioreactor systems, we are looking for someone who can become increasingly independent in performing routine laboratory and Pilot scale activities.

Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine microbiology and aseptic laboratory techniques, including plating, streaking, serial dilutions, colony isolation, and contamination checks.
- Prepare media, sterile materials, glassware, and other supplies needed for laboratory experiments.
- Prepare, maintain, and monitor seed cultures and inoculum for fermentation activities.
- Set up, inoculate, sample, monitor, and harvest shaker flask cultures.
- Operate multiple laboratory-scale bioreactors and pilot scale bioreactors.
- Assist with bioreactor setup, sterilization, inoculation, sampling, harvesting, cleaning, and preparation for subsequent runs.
- Monitor and document fermentation parameters, including pH, dissolved oxygen, temperature, agitation, and aeration.
- Collect sterile samples and prepare samples for analysis.
- Support batch and fed-batch fermentation experiments, including preparation and addition of feeds.
- Maintain accurate fermentation logs, sample tracking, and experimental documentation.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked laboratory environment and ensure equipment and materials are prepared for upcoming experiments.
- Follow established laboratory, safety, quality, and documentation procedures.
- Perform other laboratory support activities as needed.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific field; equivalent relevant laboratory experience may also be considered.
- Hands-on experience with microbiology laboratory techniques and sterile/aseptic procedures.
- Experience preparing media, working with microbial cultures, and performing routine microbiological techniques, experience operating Bioreactors is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately follow laboratory procedures and document work.
