Job Overview
Hubbell Utility Solutions is seeking a Staff Engineer (10+ years experience) to join our Engineering Enablement team – a cross‑functional group whose product is the productivity of every engineer in the organization. This team operates on a model widely adopted across the industry (Platform Engineering / Dev Ex): instead of every product team solving common infrastructure challenges independently, we build shared capabilities once and continuously improve them for everyone.
In this role, you will design and build the "golden paths" engineers use every day – the fastest, safest, and most reliable way to build, test, and release embedded products. These are not documents – they are working systems: CI/CD pipelines, automation frameworks, test infrastructure, and developer workflows. You will work at the intersection of embedded firmware, Python‑based automation, Azure Dev Ops platform engineering, and real hardware validation – helping transform how engineering is performed across the organization.
Every day at Hubbell is different and you'll contribute in many ways. On any given day, you'll make a difference by:
- Focusing on building the systems that make every product team faster, rather than building a single product.
- Shaping how firmware is built, tested, and released across the organization, creating shared infrastructure used by multiple teams – a pattern used by leading technology companies and commonly referred to as Platform Engineering or Developer Experience (Dev Ex).
- Delivering outsized technical impact: instead of improving one system, your work improves the productivity, reliability, and velocity of the entire engineering organization.
What you will build:
- Design and implement end‑to‑end CI/CD systems for embedded firmware – from commit to release.
- Build reusable pipeline templates and automation frameworks used across multiple product teams.
- Create onboarding and self‑service systems that reduce setup time and improve consistency.
Engineering infrastructure as a product:
- Treat CI/CD pipelines and engineering tooling as product‑grade systems – reliable, observable, and continuously improved.
- Integrate build, test, security, signing, and release into seamless workflows.
- Define and evolve standard patterns that become the easiest and best way to work.
Embedded + Automation systems:
- Automate build, flash, and validation workflows involving embedded tool chains and real hardware.
- Integrate hardware‑in‑the‑loop (HIL) testing and CI systems.
Developer Experience (Dev Ex) engineering:
- Measure and improve build reliability, speed, and usability.
- Reduce friction across firmware, test, and systems engineering workflows.
- Partner with engineers to identify pain points and convert them into scalable solutions.
- Azure Dev Ops (Pipelines, Repos, Artifacts)
- Python
- Git
- YAML pipelines
- Embedded tool chains (IAR, Simplicity Studio, or similar)
- Build systems (C/C++)
- Test automation frameworks
- Hardware‑in‑the‑loop systems
- Dev Sec Ops tools (SAST, SCA, code signing)
- Strong Python development for building automation, tooling, and engineering systems.
- Experience architecting CI/CD systems (Azure Dev Ops preferred).
- Deep understanding of build systems, version control, and release workflows.
- Experience with firmware development or embedded build systems.
- Comfortable working at the boundary between software and hardware.
- 10+ years in software engineering, firmware development, platform engineering, or similar.
- Demonstrated ownership of complex systems used by other engineers.
- Treat infrastructure and tooling as a product.
- Focus on usability, reliability, and long‑term maintainability.
- Motivated by solving problems that impact entire organizations.
- Experience with Azure Dev Ops ecosystems.
- Familiarity with test automation and hardware‑in‑the‑loop systems.
- Experience integrating security/scanning tools into pipelines.
This role is designed as a high‑impact technical leadership position. As the Engineering Enablement function matures, this role may evolve into broader platform ownership,…
