Salary: $43.40 - $59.68 per hour (actual pay based on experience, education, credentials, skills, internal equity, and business needs)

Overview

Works under the supervision of the Director of Nursing and/or Nurse Managers and assumes responsibility for the smooth and effective operation of the hospital in the absence of the Administrator and/or Director of Nursing. Assists team members in the interpretation and application of facility policy, coordinates appropriate staffing levels and resources for quality patient care, and makes rounds throughout the facility to assess operations and respond effectively to arising situations.

The Nursing Supervisor may also perform RN duties by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the total nursing care of assigned patients, using communication, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision‑making skills to oversee patient care across diverse physiological, psychosocial, and cultural contexts.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise and delegate non‑professional personnel working directly with patients to ensure optimum patient care.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to provide a comprehensive range of clinical services aligned with Riverside Health System standards of excellence and facility goals.
  • Delegate and prioritize tasks to facilitate quality patient care and ensure all patient needs are met.
  • Recognize and respond to emergency situations, report variances, and provide timely resolutions.
  • Investigate nursing errors, complaints regarding nursing care, and patient/visitor accidents; counsel personnel appropriately.
  • Demonstrate positive nursing leadership by supporting staff through education on policies, procedures, best practices, and strategic goals.
  • Direct the efficient and effective administration and operation of the hospital and inform the administrator or on‑call management team as required.
  • Round all units, assist in planning nursing care, evaluate care effectiveness, solve problems, and interpret nursing policies for effective room assignment.
  • Apply good judgment in staffing and patient care needs and make sound decisions related to staffing and care delivery.
  • Communicate and document staffing changes, patient care adjustments, sick callouts, and other critical information accurately.
  • Accurately complete required documentation in accordance with RHS standards.
Qualifications
  • Education:

    Registered Nurse (required). Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (preferred).
  • Experience:

    Acute care experience preferred.
  • Licenses &

    Certifications:

    Registered Nurse (RN) – Virginia Department of Health Professions (required). CPR/BLS certification from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or American Safety and Health Institute (required).
