The State of Connecticut, Department of Correction (DOC) Unified School District #1 is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Coding Instructor (Vocational Instructor) to teach programming fundamentals and coding skills.
We are looking for candidates who possess a high school (or equivalency) diploma and eight (8) years of employment and/or teaching experience in the coding industry. We welcome those who are familiar with JavaScript and related web development technologies, including Node.js, React, Express, Mongo
DB, Mongoose, and API Testing. Please see 'Minimum' and 'Preferred' Qualifications sections below for more information.
Candidates with the following CT Educator Endorsements may be considered for the title of State School Teacher, which is classified in the same pay plan and collective bargaining unit.
- 110 Unique Subject Area – Computer Science
- 047 Technology Education, PK-12
- 107 External Diploma Program/Noncredit Mandated Programs
This recruitment may be used to fill openings in correctional facilities across the state. We encourage Coding educators who are interested in teaching with the DOC to apply directly to this recruitment.
Position Highlights- SCHEDULE:
first-shift, full time (35 hours per week), Monday through Friday - ACADEMIC CALENDAR:
Unified School District (USD) #1 follows a 12-month school calendar, 222 school days per year. - LOCATION:
Osborn Correctional Institution (Somers, CT) - TRAINING:
Selected candidates may be required to present a lesson plan in front of students in one of our Correctional Facilities as part of the interview process. Candidates selected for hire are required to attend a fourteen (14) week training at the DOC Training Academy. More details can be found in the 'Selection Plan' of this job bulletin.
Candidates new to the State of Connecticut will start on ‘Step one’ of the pay plan, in the tier that their highest level of education corresponds to.
Starting salary is non-negotiable.
Salary details derived from the P-3B T1-T4 35 Hour Pay Plan are outlined below:
- Bachelors Degree: $68,792 (Step
1) – $104,174 (Step 11-14) - Masters Degree: $72,241 (Step
1) – $122,335 (Step 11-14) - 6th Year: $77,294 (Step
1) – $130,898 (Step 11-14)
- Option to maintain State of Connecticut Teacher Retirement Plan or enroll in the State Employee Retirement System;
- A variety of medical and dental plans;
- Participation in a hybrid retirement plan which provides a retirement benefit, that may include retiree health insurance;
- Sick and personal leave;
- Five (5) weeks of scheduled vacation time;
- Annual $1,000.00 lump sum payment;
- Tuition reimbursement;
- The State of CT is an eligible Public Services Loan Forgiveness employer, meaning you may be eligible to have qualifying student loans forgiven after 10 years of service.
