Somerset Community College invites applications for a Physical Science Instructor. This position is responsible for teaching 15 credit hours per semester including Physics and at least one other subject area - Chemistry, Mathematics, and/or Astronomy, as part of our Math and Science Scholars of Excellence (MSSE) program. Emphasis will be placed on major's courses, but non-major's courses may fill out the remaining credit hours.
In addition to the teaching duties, the successful candidate will become a grant mentor for Pre-engineering and Science discipline students associated with MSSE program and will be expected to participate in activities and trips related to such. All instructors are expected to maintain office hours, engage in advising/support, class preparation, curriculum development, assessment, faculty development (in-service, formal coursework, seminars, etc.),
external/community service activities, and regularly attend college/departmental meetings.
- Available for on campus, traditional instruction in the classroom.
- Deliver instruction and instructional activities, and prepare learning materials for courses each semester in accordance with the approved curriculum.
- Use of technology and learning management systems to support instruction.
- Complete instructional support processes such as syllabi development, course assessments, early interventions, and class organization.
- Participate with Mathematics and Science Scholars of Excellence program, including mentoring, college visits and after hours/ weekend activities with scholars.
- Participate in professional development, internal service, leadership, and college/department meetings.
- Participate in departmental external service activities on various campuses.
- Serve as Math and Science Club Faculty Sponsor.
- Serve as Sigma Zeta, Math and Science Honor Society Faculty Sponsor.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Master's degree in Physical Science, Mathematics or Engineering field with at least 18 graduate hours of Physics classes and 18 graduate hours in Chemistry, Mathematics and/or Astronomy from a regionally accredited college or university.
Preferred QualificationsMaster's degree in Physics with 18 additional graduate hours in at least one of the following subject areas:
Chemistry, Mathematics, or Astronomy.
