Team Modern is seeking a Fleet Mechanic to maintain, diagnose, and repair the trucks, trailers, and equipment that keep our Distribution Division moving. This role is responsible for hands-on preventive maintenance and repair work on diesel and gas-powered delivery vehicles, ensuring our fleet stays safe, reliable, and DOT-compliant. Working alongside Transportation and Operations leadership, this mechanic helps minimize downtime, extend vehicle life, and keep drivers on the road.

- Perform routine preventive maintenance on diesel trucks, trailers, and box trucks, including oil changes, brake inspections, tire rotations, and fluid checks.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues across the fleet, including engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension, and refrigeration units.
- Perform DOT inspections and ensure all vehicles meet federal, state, and company safety and compliance standards.
- Respond promptly to breakdowns and road-service calls, minimizing driver downtime and service disruptions.
- Maintain accurate repair records, work orders, and maintenance logs using the company's fleet management system.
- Order and manage parts inventory, working with vendors and suppliers to source quality parts at competitive cost.
- Inspect new and used vehicles/equipment prior to being placed into service.
- Weld, fabricate, and perform body repair work as needed to keep equipment in safe operating condition.
- Communicate regularly with the Transportation Manager and drivers regarding vehicle condition, recurring issues, and repair timelines.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment, following all safety protocols and proper use of tools and equipment.
- Assist with compliance efforts related to safety, DOT requirements, and internal procedures.
- Support special projects or operational initiatives as assigned by management.

We're looking for someone who is hands-on, dependable, and detail-oriented with a strong mechanical aptitude and pride in doing quality work. The ideal candidate would be energized by solving mechanical problems, keeping equipment running at its best, and supporting a team that depends on a safe, reliable fleet.
Qualifications- 3+ years of experience as a diesel or fleet mechanic required; medium- and heavy-duty truck experience strongly preferred.
- ASE certification(s) preferred; DOT inspection certification a plus.
- Valid driver's license required; CDL a plus.
- Working knowledge of diesel engines, brake systems, electrical systems, and hydraulics.
- Own a standard set of hand tools; company provides specialty and diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and diagnostic software readouts.
- Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment when prioritizing repairs.
- Comfortable learning new equipment, software platforms, and diagnostic tools.
- Ability to remain composed and effective in high-pressure or time-sensitive situations, including after-hours breakdown calls.
- Regularly required to stand, bend, kneel, crouch, and work in tight or elevated spaces for extended periods.
- Frequent lifting, pushing, and pulling of tools, parts, and equipment; must be able to lift or move up to 75 pounds.
- Must be able to work with hands and tools for extended periods, including exposure to grease, oil, and other automotive fluids.
