Job DescriptionJOB GOAL:
To work with an individual student who is limited in the ability to perform independently in terms of basic motor and sensory functions.
- Adapt to the student's mode of communication as necessary for instructional purposes.
- Assist with toileting, feeding, and positioning of student.
- Communicate with the teacher(s) on behalf of the student.
- Assist the student to transition successfully from one class to the next.
- Maintain and respect confidentiality of student and school personnel information.
- Accompany the teacher and student on field trips and community-based instructional opportunities during the school day.
- Perform reinforcement instructional services as delegated by the teacher, including reinforcing activities in the visual, auditory, motor and cognitive areas as well as life skills.
- Assist with related services, i.e., occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech, adapted physical education, and vision.
- Assist the assigned student on and off the bus at arrival and departure times.
- Attend training as required for performance of job. This may include, but is not limited to, crisis intervention, CPR and First Aid.
- Follow and reinforce the student's behavior plan as instructed by the classroom teacher.
- Accompany the assigned student and assist the teacher during emergency drills.
- Complete any other duty or assignment as directed by the Principal and/or Special Education Administrator.
- Two years of college course work (48 credits) / AS Degree required.
- Ability to work as part of an educational team while supporting the individual personal care needs of the student as identified in the student’s Individual Education Program (IEP).
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to attend trainings for CPR/First Aid and crisis intervention.
- Experience working with students with disabilities is preferred.
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
Reports to:
Principal and Special Education Administrator.
Terms of:
Individual contract.
