SummaryAssist in small group and individual pupil instruction.
Responsibilities- Assist students with instruction under the direction of the special education teacher.
- Assist teacher in maintaining discipline.
- Assist teacher with instructional activities.
- Escort students from room to room.
- Help students with toileting.
- Work with both special education and regular students.
- Assist teaching staff in the implementation of IEP.
- Supervise students while they are at recess and lunch.
- Assist students with classroom assignments.
- Copy materials for instructional purposes.
- Assist teacher in filing material and preparing all necessary paperwork.
- Alert teachers to problems that may be observed.
Education: High School Diploma or General Education Degree; or two years of college credit; or an associate's (or higher) degree; or successful completion of a paraprofessional assessment (Parapro Assessment) covering mathematics, reading, and writing.
Language
Skills:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; ability to write simple correspondence; ability to present information one-on-one or in small groups.
Mathematical
Skills:
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers; multiply and divide with tens and hundreds; apply operations using units of American money, weight, volume, and distance.
Computer
Skills:
Basic knowledge and experience with job‑related computer hardware and software applications.
Reasoning Ability: Apply common sense to carry out detailed written or oral instructions; handle problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Other
Skills:
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community; perform duties in accordance with district requirements and Board of Education policies.
Must sit, talk, and hear regularly; stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl regularly; push or move items up to fifty (50) pounds; occasionally lift or move up to fifty (50) pounds with assistance. Vision requirements: close, distance, and peripheral vision.
Work EnvironmentTypical classroom noise level; work throughout the school building, on school grounds, and occasionally off campus. Responsible for the safety and well‑being of students in charge.
Salary & HoursSalary: per contractual agreement.
Work hours:
6.5 hours per day (8:00 am – 3:00 pm).
