About This Role

Bristol Child Development Center is a non‑profit child care agency located in Bristol, CT. We have two sites, serving infants from 12 weeks to preschoolers age 5, and in the summer offer a school‑age program. We are state‑funded through school readiness, CDC, and are NAEYC Accredited. We seek qualified teachers dedicated to early childhood education. Teachers are responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating developmentally appropriate practices to meet children's physical, emotional, social, and cognitive needs and to ensure school readiness.

What

You'll Do
  • Create a pleasant, inviting classroom atmosphere.
  • Ensure safety through constant supervision and proper maintenance.
  • Design and implement indoor/outdoor learning environments engaging all areas of development.
  • Collaborate with teammates in developing lesson plans and documenting development.
  • Plan individual and group activities to stimulate growth.
  • Implement curriculum aligned to individual needs.
  • Evaluate progress using assessments and observations.
  • Maintain written records.
  • Work with staff, parents, professionals to integrate services.
  • Maintain open, friendly relationships with children and families.
  • Encourage parental involvement.
  • Develop communication system with parents and conduct conferences.
  • Maintain healthy and safe environment following DPH & NAEYC guidelines.
  • Serve as a role model promoting harmony among staff and children.
  • Contribute to center operations through meetings and professional development.
  • Assist in setting program goals and strategic planning.
  • Promote effective working relationships as part of a team.
  • Report issues or incidents to administration.
  • Maintain professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Follow abuse and neglect policy for reporting suspected abuse.
  • Physically able to interact with children in indoor and outdoor settings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements Education

Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or related human services field plus applicable work experience. Must meet QSM qualifications in CT, chart a Course registry or be willing to obtain ECTC credential.

Experience and Training
  • At least one year experience in an early childhood setting.
  • First Aid and CPR certification or willingness to complete required courses.
  • Medication and Epi‑pen certification or willingness to complete required training.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Good judgment and flexibility for individualized needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with parents, staff, and community.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work in a center environment and participate in physical activities.
  • Energetic and physically agile; frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 40 lbs.
  • Vision and hearing corrected to normal.
  • Fluent communication in English verbally and in writing.
Other Requirements
  • Criminal and Department of Children and Families background check per licensing.
  • Statement of good health from physician with negative tuberculosis test.
Nice to Haves
