Summary

To provide the leadership and expertise needed to make the teaching team most effective in the provision of the educational program for students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Coordinate all activities of the teaching team.
  • Coordinate interdisciplinary units of study with the teaching team.
  • Conduct team meetings regularly.
  • Assume responsibility for the continual improvement of the quality of instruction provided by the team.
  • Oversee and coordinate the clerical work of the team.
  • Assist with the master schedule and any individual teacher scheduling problems.
  • Assume responsibility for the development and implementation of resource files for the team.
  • Coordinate the creation and development of special curriculum materials.
  • Encourage team members in the use of new methods and materials.
  • Offer in-service workshops that are deemed useful by the teachers of the team.
  • Meet periodically with other team leaders to discuss new materials and programs, evaluate present programs and consider problems of mutual concern.
  • Assume responsibility for generating solutions to problems of concern.
  • Attend pertinent conferences and conventions and share information with team members.
  • Meet and confer with parents as necessary.
  • Assist members of the team in evaluation of all students.
  • Serve as a member of the mentor support team for new and beginning teachers.
  • Analyze multiple student data as a means for improving instruction.
  • Assist colleagues in identifying, collecting and analyzing student data.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervises classroom and students (volunteers and parent helpers where appropriate). Performs general supervisory duties as scheduled.

Qualification Requirements
  • Education and/or

    Experience:

    Bachelor Degree. (Masters Degree for certain positions).
  • Additional Credits Required For Completion Of Certification Requirements.
  • Demonstrate instructional leadership qualities.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
    Valid Connecticut Teaching Certificate.
  • Language

    Skills:

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and governmental regulations; write memos, reports, and correspondence; effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators, staff, parents and the general public.
  • Mathematical

    Skills:

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals; compute rates, ratios, and percentages; draw and interpret bar graphs; calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume; apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Computer

    Skills:

    Basic knowledge and experience with standard hardware and software applications; use computer for e‑mail, word processing, accounting, databases, and presentations.
  • Reasoning Ability:
    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

    Skills and Abilities:

    Application of current research and teaching competencies to instructional program; plan and implement lessons based on school objectives and the needs and abilities of students; establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication; perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies and the code of professional responsibility for teachers.
  • Physical Demands:
    Frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit; may occasionally push or lift up to 50 pounds; directly responsible for safety, well‑being or work output of other people; vision abilities required include close vision; position requires meeting multiple demands from several people and interacting with the public and other staff.
  • Work Environment:
    Noise level moderate to loud; duties performed indoors and occasionally outdoors.
