Job Description
JOB GOAL:
To create an effective preschool program that meets the learning needs of all students; to determine classroom goals for IEPs and to utilize strategies to achieve the goals of students on Individualized Education Programs; to motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a solid foundation for continued learning for students’ to achieve to potential; to establish good relationships with all stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrates currency in early childhood education.
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of an early childhood integrated program, the NAEYC Accreditation process and NAEYC standards, and the Guidelines for Preschool Learning Experiences.
- Frames curriculum around key learning standards/concepts that provide opportunities for reasoning, logic, analysis and synthesis when planning units, lessons, and assessments.
- Keeps current in early childhood research and pedagogy and applies that knowledge to the instructional program in pre‑school.
- Contributes to the ongoing evaluation of the pre‑school program.
- Demonstrates competency in working with children with special needs, such as spectrum disorders, communication disorders, behavior disorders, etc.
- Conducts effective planning and assessment of the pre‑school program.
- Effectively plans instruction and assessment and monitors student’s understanding of the curriculum. Adjusts instruction, materials, or assessments when appropriate.
- Manages the classroom environment and creates an atmosphere that is positive for student learning and involvement in an integrated preschool program.
- Delivers instruction effectively.
- The teacher makes learning goals clear to students and uses appropriate instructional techniques.
- The teacher uses a variety of teaching strategies to meet the learning needs of preschoolers, including ABA, visual systems, sign language, audio‑visual presentations, sensory intervention, behavior modifications, discussions and inquiry, and practical applications.
- The teacher uses appropriate questioning techniques.
- The teacher evaluates, tries innovative approaches, and refines instructional strategies, including the effective use of technologies, to increase student learning and confidence to learn.
- Promotes and communicates high standards and expectations in pre‑school for student achievement.
- Promotes equity and appreciation of diversity and strives to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning.
- The teacher demonstrates an appreciation for and sensitivity to the diversity among individuals.
- Fulfills all professional responsibilities.
- Cooperates in interactions with parents and is receptive to their contributions.
- Shares responsibility for accomplishing the goals and priorities of his/her grade/team/department, building and school district.
- Exercises reflection on teaching and education and embraces the concept of continuous learning.
- Completes any other duty or assignments as directed by the Principal.

- MA Educator License, Early Childhood (pK-2) and Moderate Disabilities pK-2 or pK-8
- Training in CALM, Crisis Prevention Intervention or Safety Care; CPR and First Aid (all preferred)
- Experience as an early childhood teacher of students with disabilities (preferably Autism Spectrum Disorder).
- Knowledge and experience with Applied Behavioral Analysis and Discrete Trial Instruction
- Willingness to pursue advanced special education training as directed by the Director of Special Education and Principal.
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
