Job Description

JOB GOAL:
To assist the principal in providing school wide leadership and to help students resolve nonacademic problems which may be interfering with their ability to derive full benefit from the school’s educational opportunities, programs, and services.

Performance Responsibilities
  • Assists the principal in the overall administration of the school.
  • Shares with the principal the responsibility for protecting the health and welfare of students.
  • Assists the principal in maintaining discipline throughout the student body.
  • Oversight of the reporting and monitoring of student attendance including truancy, tardiness and residency.
  • Has general supervisory responsibility for student activities, student orientation programs and similar activities.
  • Confers with parents, teachers, counselors, support service personnel, and students on matters of discipline and welfare.
  • Makes recommendations for appropriate revisions of policies and rules affecting the student’s life in the school and prepares and maintains the student handbook.
  • Assists in developing and administering practices dealing with campus control and security.
  • Assists with campus supervision both during and after school including after school programs.
  • Assists in the interpretation of school and district programs, policies and procedures to students, parents, staff, and community.
  • Works with community and government agencies on problems relating to drug abuse and truancy from school.
  • Provides administrative input to the process of building and maintaining the master schedule and all related schedules.
  • Assists the principal in evaluating teacher classroom performance.
  • Makes recommendations for appropriate revisions of policies and rules affecting faculty and staff life in the school and prepares and maintains the faculty handbook.
  • Assists principal in the areas of curriculum development, design of professional development and data analysis regarding school performance goals/targets.
  • Assists the principal in overseeing improvement initiatives.
  • Serves with parents, faculty, and student groups as requested in advancing educational and related activities.
  • Chairs and/or co‑chairs standing committees as directed by the principal.
  • Assists in the daily routine of staffing the school including duties and the process of procuring, assigning and directing substitute teachers.
  • Assists in the supervision and evaluation of the custodial, clerical and paraprofessional staff.
  • Assists the principal in budget preparation and monitoring including oversight for all ordering and receiving of supplies and equipment for the building.
  • Serves as the principal, as directed, in the absence of the principal.
  • Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the principal may from time to time assign.
