Building and Maintenance Person

The Diocese of Fall River is seeking a Part-Time Custodian to join our team at the St. John of God Parish, in Somerset, MA. We are looking for a self-motivated and team – orientated individual of high integrity who possesses a great work ethic and is passionate about fulfilling “Christ’s work on earth!” The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in facilities maintenance, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Your expertise in various maintenance tasks will contribute to the overall efficiency and safety of our operations.

• Daily cleaning and maintenance of building facilities
• Prepare the church and other rooms for services and events, including: performing the necessary room set-up for scheduled meetings, sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and vacuuming floors using cleaning solutions, tools, and equipment.
• Cleaning or polishing walls, ceilings, windows, and building fixtures.
• Cleaning walkways, parking lots, and steps.
• Dusting furniture, walls, and other equipment.
• Daily gathering and emptying of the trash.
• Daily cleaning of the bathrooms.
• Notifying the Facilities Manager of the need for material/supplies, or the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems.
• Waxing or sealing floors.
• Assisting with building security, not limited to locking and unlocking.
• Cutting and trimming of grass, leaf removal, planting and weeding.
• The removal of snow at all the properties, unless outside contracting is provided.

• Prior experience in building maintenance, preferably in a church or similar environment.
• Basic knowledge of HVAC and mechanical functions of a large residential building.
• Basic knowledge of cleaning methods and products as well as basic carpentry and painting skills
• Basic knowledge of landscaping, i.e. lawn care with powered equipment.
• Ability to bend, stoop, lift and move furniture, walk/stand for a majority of the shift, shovel snow, and remove trash, and lift up to 70 pounds.
• Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle required.
• The ability to work nights and weekends, when necessary.
