Position: Class B CDL Driver (Hazmat + Tanker endorsements preferred) (CleanPack Chemist (CDL))

Clean Harbors in Bristol, CT is seeking an Environmental Field Chemist (Clean Pack Chemist) to handle, segregate, pack, and inspect chemical waste in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations and company policies.

This customer‑facing position works indoors and outdoors at plants, labs, and customer sites, assisting with lab packs within customer facilities, household hazardous waste (HHW) collections, and lab moves. The Environmental Field Chemist is not laboratory based.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure health and safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes.
  • Prepare computer‑generated packing lists, labels, manifests, and land disposal restriction notifications.
  • Perform inspections of staging, accumulating and storage areas to ensure proper housekeeping procedures and compliance.
  • Inspect storage areas and drums for leaks, spills, and labeling compliance.
  • Collect, segregate, and properly package waste chemicals to maximize efficiency and maintain compliance.
  • Execute jobs at Clean Harbors customer locations, including Fortune 500 companies.
  • Prepare and approve final project documentation before shipment in accordance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and company policies.
  • Conduct projects/jobs according to site‑specific federal, state, and local regulations and health and safety plans.
  • Understand customer‑specific disposal restrictions and special packaging requirements.
  • Sample and profile new waste streams or any waste requiring analytical testing.
  • Ensure drum counts are correct and drums are shippable per company policies and procedure.
  • Follow all local, state, and federal compliance regulations and rules.
  • Safely operate vehicles in accordance with U.S. DOT, local, state, and federal requirements.
  • Observe all corporate operating guidelines and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Obtain a CDL Class B with hazmat and tanker endorsement within six months of employment.
  • Ability to perform required physical functions.
  • Successful completion of a background check, drug test, and physical examination (as required).
  • For positions requiring respirators, meet facial hair standards per OSHA 29 CFR 1910.34.
Preferred Qualifications
  • College degree in Chemistry or a related natural science.
  • Previous experience in environmental services such as remediation, abatement, or emergency spill response.

This entry‑level position offers extensive training, internal mobility, and a clear career path. After mastering the role in approximately 18 to 36 months, employees may progress to salary management positions or other senior roles within Clean Harbors or our customers.
