Staff Accountant

We are looking for a Staff Accountant to join a manufacturing and distribution environment in Somerset, New Jersey. This contract to permanent opportunity is ideal for an accounting specialist who enjoys hands-on financial work, accurate recordkeeping, and cross-functional collaboration. In this role, you will help strengthen day-to-day accounting operations while supporting timely reporting and dependable financial data.

Staff Accountant Responsibilities:

• Manage the accounts payable cycle by reviewing invoices, validating purchase order support, assigning proper accounting codes, and ensuring transactions are recorded in the correct period.
• Maintain vendor account information, examine supplier statements, and investigate discrepancies to support accurate balances and timely resolution of open items.
• Assist with outgoing payments and related cash disbursement activities while helping maintain organized and reliable payment records.
• Support accounts receivable processes through cash application, customer account monitoring, follow-up on overdue balances, and upkeep of customer master data.
• Prepare and reconcile general ledger accounts, including journal entries and supporting documentation, to preserve the accuracy of financial records.
• Contribute to month-end close tasks and provide support during year-end audit activities by gathering schedules, reconciling balances, and addressing documentation requests.
• Help maintain data accuracy within the organization's accounting systems and identify opportunities to improve reporting consistency and financial control.
• Partner with teams across operations, purchasing, service, and sales to resolve transactional issues and improve the quality of accounting information.
• Support tax-related accounting activities, including work connected to sales tax, corporate tax reporting, and other assigned compliance needs.
